Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Accleration mods..

Just go ahead and spring for a K&N FIPK they may be a little pricey but they work well and look like a factory piece and they are very simple to install.

I was told that wont fit in my 08 grand prix.

Here is what some one told me as to why it wont:

"The reason this won't drop right in, is that as I said before the MAF is separate from the throttle body and bolts to the stock airbox with 2 screws. Now, when you take the stock airbox off and unbolt the MAF from it, you can't just attach the Wizaired box and tubing and cone to it because of the way it is shaped. Since the MAF bolts to the airbox instead of clamping to it, there is only a TINY lip to attach anything to. So what you have to do is get a coupler (like $5 on zzp) and attach a short tube to the MAF with that coupler. You can then clamp a cone on the end of that tube. Now, I haven't figured out whether or not a wizaired box would fit in the space after you do all that because on my car, I just went without a box. If you go without a box, though, it's not a CAI...instead it's a HOT air intake and is less effective and makes your engine more prone to knock. So I actually took that off my car after about a week. "

So what should I do? I would love to just buy one and drop it in.

If you don't over oil the filter and clean the MAF sensor you should be fine.
When I put one in my s10 you could tell, this car not so much. Revving it is a little more aggressive. I had a fram air hog in my monte but it was dry. I don't think they make a fram for this car I couldn't find one.

dude, are u seriously recomending that overpriced K&N pos "cai"? You could make a better performing unit for $10...

get one from TDC. They're half the price and a way better design. Don't quote me but, i believe he makes them for your year.

This is how I roll.

The K&N setup works just fine, and for some of us appearance is important for others not so much! I suggested it for ease of installation because he obviously has no mechanical ability ,calling the K&N a POS was'nt called for it may be overpriced but brand name items always are, it uses a huge filter and a heat resitant polycarbonate tube and a silicone coupler and comes with a dyno sheat with every kit I do'nt see the others providing you with a dyno sheet ,but to the OP no matter what setup you pick wether it be the K&N or a Getto home made setup they all provide some small accelloration increase but are'nt going to give any dramatic HP increase.Chico.

for what they do on our cars, they are a POS for the price. It is not that great because it sucks in warm air. If you want to suck in warm air, buy a cone filter( a k and n if you wish) and bolt it on as close to the throttle body as possible. it you want a cold air intake get the one from TDC if you dont want to make your own. Most people mod their cars for performance reasons, not just looks(and in this case I would say it is the same because he keeps asking what the estimated HP gains would be) The TDC looks good once it is painted and installed and not much different to install than the K and N.....you just save yourself over a hundred dollars, that is all.......by the way to answer your question you could probably expect to gain 8-10hp from this mod.(the drop in maybe a 1-2hp gain) over stock. it also will improve mileage a bit.....at least it did for me. IIRC KandN FIPK claims on their website to gain around 10hp or so.......

K&N = fail. If you want to talk ambient temps and such then it is one of THE worst intakes out there. Sure it might be easy to install...but I could have made my own for $50...bought a TDC FWI for less than $150...gone faster...and STILL had enough money left over for next month's car payment.

And you know this all how ?Have you ever owned or tested a K&N FIPK? I guess you just know all this with your extensive modding !!!!!!

have you read the other posts on this????? I dont know what else you are taking into consideration........it sucks in warm air....fact. It does flow better than stock........fact............it is expensive compared to the other air intakes.........fact .............it does look respectable for a mod........fact................it does not suck cold air as well as a TDC intake would and is much more expensive than the TDC intake........fact. Which part of this do you disagree with? The HPs are just guesses and not firm numbers. Personally I use a KandN cone filter with my TDC intake, and like the combo very much. I am just saying that for a performance mod, there are many many other better options for actual performance gains on these cars than the KandN FIPK. if you just want a "pretty" design to look decent under teh hood, and dont care as much about performance then maybe the KandN fipk is for you...........if you are performance oriented, then it is not a cost effective mod.

Ihave a 06 gp with a drop in k&n and it works great. They come with a seal on them to seal out the top portion of ur air-box Its still hot but not as mutch as it is with stock I payed 20 bucks for mine (on sale) thats why i got it It did improve throtle responce but not so mutch accel. fyi 06+ gp they dont sell a cold air kit thats bolt on u have to make ur own I know ive looked for over a year for one 05- works but its not the best THERE ARE NO BOLT ON MODS FOR A 06+ GP they simply dont make any mods for the car I talked to a freind at the dealership and he said no aftermarket parts are produced for it. end of story

fixed :)

You wasted your money, have fun buying a new MAF sensor 1-6 months from now.

Return that ****ty drop in and make yourself a proper intake.

That's a ridiculous comment and un-needed! :th_shakinghead2:

Sure the drop in filters aren't as great as a fender well intake or a cold air intake but they are better than nothing. The thing that causes the MAF to go bad is from when people clean their filters and over oil them when they use the Recharge Kit.

When you over oil those filters or any filter pannel or cone type you can screw up the MAF. This is from the oil collecting on the MAF sensor it's self and causing false readings eventually burning making it malfunction.

I know numerous ASE certified mechanic's that will vouch for what i just said too.

As for easy go fast parts. A down-pipe from www.3800performance.com and an intake from TDC Racing should get you on the right path. Let your car breathe!

just wanted to point out that you should not get your downpipe from 3800performance

3800performance.com has downpipes starting at $260
zzperformance.com has downpipes starting at $120
i had my "downpipe" done for $50 at a local exhaust shop.

Am i supposed to be dazzled?

K&N panel filters are garbage. Try this...Take a panel type filter and a $5.00 paper panel filter. Hold up the panel filter and try blowing into it, with your hand on the other side, see if you can feel anything...Now try the same thing with the paper filter.

Ive ruined 2 Maf's with those K&N panel type filters, and no, i didn't even oil it, and no it wasn't over-oiled either. The stock intake is restrictive as it is, that K&N panel filter is only making manners worse. As far as they're cones go, there not that bad

I would try the f/s thread for downpipes, there is a good deal on a zzp d/p in there right now.

I never asked anyone to be dazzled. I was simply stating that crapping on his thread wasn't necessary.

Sure pannel filters and stock air boxes are nothing to brag about but he's just starting out for God's sake. We've all bought things that we wished we didn't and found out later to be not that great or worthless.

All i'm saying is you can screw up a MAF just as easy with a cone filter so your argument is not valid. MAF sensors are touchy lil suckers plain & simple.

Hogan Performance makes downpipes for 3800 performance.

You can also check out http://www.easyperformance.com/ for the Wizaird Intakes. Alot of people like these as well.

I don't mean to come off as a dick, i don't see why your crying about what i said, i just don't want the poor guy to have to buy another MAF due to something silly. Dude, a cone setup is completely different than a panel filter. The stock air box is restrictive, trying to suck in air through a tiny hole, through a oil filled filter. It is no where near the same as a cone, making it way less restrictive will make up for the oil in the filter, all of that can be easily avoided if you run a paper type, like I do. The k&n panel aren't worth their weight by any means.

But, think what you want. Im only going by my personal experience/mistakes.

build your own (cheap, effective) or get a tdcracing FWI (still cheap, looks nice, effective) end thread.....would you guys stop arguing about stupid shyt your making us look like clubgp!:th_thumb-down:....an intake is an intake to each his own.....if someone thinks the k&n works well let them think that and when you pass them say its prob your intake thats holding you back :)

Yes, im done in here. Sry to 08GrandPrixV6, didn't mean to hurt your feelings, if i did, i was just messing around. Your thread turned out to be more of a debate.
