The REASON its referred to as "Pre-Gen" is because its the PREVIOUS GENERATION compared to what is common among this forum. In case you didn't notice, there are no 1-4th gen GPs up at the top header, or on the bottom header. We commonly work on 97-08 with the 3800. This is predominately a 3800 only forum with a mix of the 5.3 GXP owners and their lack of normal problems.

We do yes, have a FEW members that run the old generation cars, but not common or active as we have no big support for that body-style or old motors. We have a few 3100/3400 92-96 guys that are active, but even they understand WHY we refer to them as pre-gens, altho, they get them stock so they just tend to say :th_nanana:

Not to mention pregen is alot easier than 92-96 and there were several wheels offered at the time. 3 being 5 spokes, 2 being twisted so then you have to specify the honeycomb or the straight thin 5 spoke wheels and ain't nobody got time for that.

So you can take your "it makes no sense" elsewhere. It does.

Lol. I can clearly see that this forum is heavily populated by the 97-03(2nd Generation W) GP. Since it's a Grand Prix forum, I would still think that there is enough brain here amongst it's active members that you would be able to differentiate between the generations of w-bodies, not just the almighty cars that were heaven sent an L67. But clearly not, since you can't get the years correct for these wheels. They weren't around until 1994.

1st Gen isn't that hard to type, but maybe that's just me. I think it's still stupid, no matter what generation Grand Prix this forum is influenced by. I don't care if I get flamed, hence the post. I come here for the lolz anyway.

"Pre-gen"s don't cover just 1 wheel type. Obviously you haven't done research on the subject, but its ok, I'll enlighten you.

Commonly we refer to pre-gens among the 92-96 wheels due to them being rarer than the others. As I posted, again, you didn't research nor did you read. Now, that being said, allow me to explain, Lucy.

Crosslaced wheels appeared from 88-2000 but the difference is 1) 97-00 they twisted them, 2) the 97-00 backspacing is rediculously high (aka, they're sucked in more than previous years), 3) color options, 4) 97-00 wheels were thinner, 16x8 down to 16*6.5.

The 5 spoke wheels are similar to the untrained eyes, these are the ones that go from 94-96, but 97+ got wider spokes, again with higher backspacing, lost the really cool PONTIAC engraving, and as with the other got thinner. Most people want one of these 2 as the backspacing is lower so it sits more flush with the fender and gives a more aggressive look and can run a wider tire.

The other 3 wheels options are pointless as nobody really goes for them because, well, they're hideous. But in that regards, rather than trying to explain which year model wheels you want and which variety we simply dub pregen and let it go. just as you should with this arguement.

I don't need some lesson on what wheels 1st Gen Grand Prix's came with, I'm not dumb. I'm almost postive I've been in this community longer than you, sir. But thank you for the try. I can give you a real break down(minus the hubcaps..because really, nobody cares ha)..

1988:
-sawblade 5 spoke wheels(SE and LE)
-straight, stubby 5 spoke wheels(LE)
*both 15"

1989:
-sawblade 5 spokes(aluminum and body color painted) in 15" and 16"(LE and SE)
-16" crosslaces **first year of the crosslaces, not 88(Turbo only)
-15" stubby 5 spokes from '88(LE)

1990:
-body colored fatty 5 spoke wheels (Turbo STE sedan only)
-16" crosslaces(Turbo coupe only)
-15" sawblades(painted body color or finished aluminum, SE and LE)

1991-1993:
-16" crosslaces(1992 had the spoke inlets painted white, red, or blue for the Richard Petty Edition) otherwise either silver or gold painted (SE and GTP)
-15" sawblades(sedan SE and LE)
-16" fatty 5 spokes from the Turbo STE carried over to the N/A STE(aluminum or body color)

1994-1996:
-16" crosslaces..silver or gold painted(GTP or SE)
-16" sawblade wheels(either painted silver or body color)(SE non-b4u and SE/GT sedan)
-16" straight thin 5 spokes(pregens...) either painted silver, white, or polished aluminum(SE or GTP)

I love how he rewrote everything I said, but with specific years to each, which is wrong on 88, but don't listen to the guy who works at a GM dealership with access to all the catalogs and info offered to GM vehicles, he doesn't know what he's talking about.

As I said, if it was to continue, it should be put into a Rant thread, since he's so butthurt about the word "Pregens"

So moving back onto topic and off the nonsense.

Yes, everything is different about the 3800s between Series 1 and 2

Completely different block, internals, heads, uses a M62 supercharger instead of the M90, its all different and not of use.

Very few, this is why I moved on from my 94 SSEi bonne.

They don't even make headers for them and they are not interchangeable with S2/S3 motors due to the stupid design. Most everything would have to be a one-off custom job.

Yea, I wen't from knowing 4cyl, inline 6s and V6/V8 most all being symmetrical, the Series1 blew my mind with its retarded-ness.

I will say, that little M62 was a screamer, sounded wicked with an intake on it, but not very powerful, and never got around to trying a smaller pulley for fear of blowing up my DD.

well some jacka*ss was thinking that it would be cool to rip my gtp emblem off my grille stomp on it then layit back on my hood! I hate people that mess with other peoples cars!
