Re: 1997 Black GTP - Is Now Going Intercooled.

Certainly hope you can get this all figures out bud. Too much effort gone into it already

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Is Now Going Intercooled.

Even if the knock sensors are totally unplugged?

When the knock sensors are totally unplugged, the car will still register some kind if knock at all times. It will pull a code for it as well and the car won't reach above a certain amount of timing. It's like the car goes into "limp" mode when it sees both sensors are unplugged.

I am no tuning expert but I believe to correct the checksum error you just need to load the bin back into the dhp and make a change to the bin and resave it. Like any change. I believe that is all I had to do to get mine to work.

I believe scotty figured that out, with the CheckSum error. He basically took me step by step what he did, but I'm no tuner so it's all kinda foreign to me. Whatever he did, he now can fully read the PCM without an error.

Me and you both man, this issue is driving my crazy. Something so small is causing such a big problem. What a headache.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Is Now Going Intercooled.

Do a rebuild! Or get a shortblock.. You im the wbody state man get one and do a rebuild in a day!!

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Is Now Going Intercooled.

Dang sorry to hear that. That's one perty IC. Maybe the data was corrupt some how and the new tune fixes it. Here's to hoping!

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Is Now Going Intercooled.

Yes to solve the checksum error all you need to do is load the file into DHP and resave the bin file. Figured that out after the attempt with Dan. Also Dan 97s do not require a case learn.

That is true, but why get a whole new engine and find out that's not the problem? It's most likely a transmission noise. It's just a waste of money throwing parts at it, especially something like throwing an engine at it. Lol

It is a pretty nifty intercooler, hopefully the new tune fixes the issue and I can install this intercooler. If all goes well, the core may go on this weekend.

True.. I thought its engine related.. But yeah just dont wanna get rid of a good thing..

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Is Now Going Intercooled.

Since I had a full day off and no plans for once, I tackled the intercooler core while I could. Everything went pretty smoothly, besides I cut open the LIM way more than expecting. Two downfalls so far, car has a vacuum leak coming from the bottom of the core on a corner. (Go figure with intercoolers, right?) and my supercharger belt is hitting the coil pack bracket. What do you fellow intercooled people do to space the bracket?

Got myself a Bosch pump as well:

Before:

Had to cut it open even more than this picture shows:

Finally fits:

Looking like an engine again:

Final Product:

You can see where the belt is hitting the corner of the bracket:

Just need a front mount and hoses soon, then it will be complete.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Intercooler Core Installed.

you can add a stack of washers under the icm plate to lift it, or bill did a how to where he ground the inside of the bracket down and moved the whole icm over to the right.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Intercooler Core Installed.

Get rid of those garleak gaskets! Besides that I'm jelly.

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Intercooler Core Installed.

I would love a belt wrap, but need to save my money for a front mount. I'll hopefully fix thy Vac leak soon and add some washers under the ICM before my belt shreds off. Lol

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Intercooler Core Installed.

Or just modify the coil bracket like bill did in one of his many write ups :)

Re: 1997 Black GTP - Intercooler Core Installed.

I need to get that fixed before my belt tears itself apart. What did you use to cut the bracket? Seems to be pretty thick metal.
