Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With NEW Double Din & Installed.

My steering wheel controls are pretty worn out. Never bothered replacing them because I don't ever use them since I've always had an aftermarket radio without steering wheel control.
The module to retain steering wheel controls is like $55. I have a used one that I no longer need. I lost the instructions though.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With NEW Double Din & Installed.

Yeah I found one on eBay for about $45 or $50. Either way I don't want to spend that for the adapter. If you have one, and would sell me for cheaper I'd probably take it off your hands.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With NEW Double Din & Installed.

Instructions would be online. Mine was easy, press and hold the button until it flashes then power up or down until it works I believe. Like I said tho, look up brand and instructions thru Google n should be able to find em.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With NEW Double Din & Installed.

You have to splice it into a certain wire in the harness and I don't remember what one it is. Let me know if you want it Dan. I could probably do $20 shipped and I'll try to find the instructions they are around somewhere.

When hooking up my double din, I saw a wire specifically labelled for steering wheel controls. I'll take it off your hands. PM me if you want.

It gets spliced into the steering wheel control wire on the vehicle harness.

No idea which color wire that is. Lol

You said I needed new buttons for my steering wheel, now that I purchased the steering wheel controls from you, do you happen to have spare buttons laying around in better condition than mine?

Yes, but they are in a storage unit 20 miles away.

Do you have a remote for your current head unit? You need a remote to program the adapter?

No I don't have a remote with the new head unit.

I have my old Sony remote that went to my old head unit, but I doubt it will work with my Kenwood double din, unless you can program it somehow.

Nope all I have is Pioneer

I don't think you need a remote to program the adapter though.

After it's all installed, you just hold down the volume button on the steering wheel for a minute. Something like that.

No I was looking at the instructions and you use the remote that came with the stereo to program the adapter

If it's actually required then I need to buy a remote off eBay or something. *Sigh*

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With NEW Double Din & Installed.

Purchased a rear view camera since the double din was capable of it. Didn't want to spend the money on a nice Kenwood rear view camera since I didn't really have the money anyways for an expensive one. I just wanted something, because I can. Lol

Purchased a $30 PYLE Audio Rear View Camera. Had it in chrome to match my license plate cover. Camera isn't the best, but kinda cool. I like it.

The Plasti-dip for the car came in the mail today for the dash bezel. Will paint that soon. Just waiting on my steering wheel control adapter. The tires will also be here next Tuesday. YAY

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With NEW Double Din & Installed.

Gonna be honest, I spent the money on the costly Pioneer camera to go with my unit...it is no better than my dad's $30 backup cam, you did good.

Well that's good to hear!

I figured, "You get what you pay for." There were some on eBay for about $12 that came straight from Hong Kong. Decided against that. Went a little better, even though the brand PYLE is a garbage audio brand, but a brand none the less.
