Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

I'm also debating about going to harbor freight and purchasing their Bore Scope. It's roughly $100, but I'll return it after I inspect each cylinder.

If you do that let me know... I wanna use it before you return it.

KR under WOT is what you want to worry about. Kr during cruising or light throttle really is normal on a 97.

ive talked to several tuners about this when i was tuning my car for e85, because i didnt believe zzp when they said its harmless

0_o...

100% NOT normal... I have NEVER once seen kr while under light throttle or cruising.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

i did. usually under light throttle, not all the time.

its likely from gear noise or exhaust rattles. if its legit knocking, pull a plug and get a magnifying glass, look at the plug tip and you will be able to see tiny pieces of metal on the plug.

something i learned in school

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

This...

I was actually warned by my tuner to watch for cruising kr... Since we were working on a lean burn cruise and REALLY high cruise timing.

My personal guess is chipped piston...but I haven't been following this thread as much as others have. But anytime I saw part throttle KR (not false KR,) I ended up having to replace stuff under the cylinder heads...aka the engine.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

Dan were you getting part throttle KR before you put the 3.5" on the GenV?

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

im pretty sure pulley size has nothing to do with it, considering your not in any boost while cruising or light throttle

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

I get part throttle kr all the time on my car. I turned of my knock sensors under 2200 rpm

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

I know pulley size isn't causing it, just wondering if he chipped a piston going to the 3.5

Yes I was.

I started to notice it a few days ago going to school on the highway. When I got home, I opened the hood and saw my filter was off the intake. Forgot to tighten it down. Figured that was issue. After I put the filter back on I didn't really look a cruising KR since I've never had a problem before. Now that I tried the 3.5 on the Gen V I started to monitor KR more, obviously, and this is when I started to notice the cruising KR again.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

Tore the engine completely apart. Found the issue with the car, nothing major....
