Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

Well, let me put this very simply....

In the last 3~ years have you ever before seen kr while cruising? If not then how can you NOT think something has changed.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

Something has changed.

I know that. I just want to know if Cruising KR is detrimental? If I can't wait until I can save up some money, without causing worse problems. Between -8 & -5 Psi, in 4th gear, I get cruising KR. Other than that, nothing.

Like we talked about, if I can wait and just deal with the KR without causing much more problems, I can save up some money to do a few upgrades when we pull the heads off.

Stainless steel intake (Larger size, 1.90)/exhaust valves. Ported and Polished heads from you, and do the rocker setup at that time too.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

In my 97 I've seen rare blips of kr while cruising, part throttle kr, and 5* of wot kr.
GenV w/3.8 pulley and headers.

I think I need rockers too.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

I see cruising KR, no matter what pulley I'm on. But it's so consistent and can climb to 7* at certain times.

But, I can run KR free WOT on a 3.5 Gen V with Headers, until about 90+ Mph.

Stange. :th_scratchhead:

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

Might be a stupid idea but...
Your car ran kr free with the gen lll? Swap it back on and see if that helps. Then save some $ till you can pull the heads and dig deeper.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

I don't really feel like pulling the LIM off, unless I can run a Gen V LIM on a Gen III.

Even then, my Gen III has no pulley on it. It had a MPS, but I swapped that over to the Gen V.

You cant.. I tried that before huge vac leak sucked ass and ended up swapping to a Gen III LIM

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

Got a few things straightened up with the car. Just minor things.

Put the rims on, re-painted the brake calipers, fixed the short in my halo's, and got a new HID kit for my fog lights.

Also fixed my girlfriends front brakes. These were the worst I've ever seen:

Old Vs. New:

And did some HID's on my buddies 2010 Malibu. Talk about a pain. You have to remove the whole front bumper to get to two screws holding in the headlight assembly. What an inconvenience.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

Car is looking good man! I spent most of the weekend getting mine freshened up and ready to come out of winter storage.
I recently picked up a new front bumper to replace mine and it came with some empty blazertech 3200 fog housings with glass lens which I'd like to retrofit with some hid's. Was wondering which style hid kit you used to do your fogs?

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

I used h3 bulbs for my fog lights.

Where did you get your new front bumper from?

Thanks
Wasn't a new bumper, just a nice used black bumper from a demodded car.
For $50 I couldn't go wrong and would have more into paint and labour to paint the one on the car.
Matches the paint on the rest of the car too by not sticking out looking feshly painted...lol

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

where'd you get your caliber paint? and what steps did you take for doing them?

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

I got the caliper kit from AutoZone. $20

They've already been painted before, so I just repainted with them without much prep.

The first time I ever did it, I use lots of brake cleaner and some rustoleum rust remover and scrubbed away at the calipers. Then cleaned it some more. Put 4-5 coats of paint on and called it a day.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

i might hazard a guess my brakes look like that HAHA

cars looking good bud

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

Lol your SD lip is FACKED. I would have removed that for the winter IMO.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

well rust remover hurt the brakes/rotors ?

Not at all. Just helps cleans the calipers before you paint them.

How would that hurt anything?

This. Wouldn't hurt a thing.

Tell me about it. There's no cracks in it, just missing paint all over.

It will have to get repainted sometime this summer hopefully.

At least I didn't hit a raccoon with mine. ;)

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V Installed.

If you hit a racoon, your monster truck will just go right over it. Mine on the other hand..
