1997 Black GTP - Soon To Be Thumping.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V.

Couldn't get the wiring harness out... Using a car battery was the plan.

I wasn't talking about hooking it to the seat. I meant to hook it to the car under the hood with the cables and bolts.

That's a big no no at that junk yard. Get caught doing that and you're out. it's a fire hazard. You don't know if the fuel pump is still in the car or lines are cut some place or other wires cut. That's just asking for trouble. Hook it up to the only harness you need. I do that for spare windows all the time on the window switch.

What you CAN do is tap into the fuse box wires for the power seats though. That'll make it move and not have to get to the harness under the seats.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V.

I do it quite often for things at my local yard. No fire hazard. Fuel pump won't run without a key, fuses will pop if something else is dead shorted.
But I can understand if that's their rules. There are a LOT of dumbasses out there.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V.

Started working on the Gen V.

Cleaned the Gen V and LIM with Brake Cleaner and Grease Lightning. Pulled off the snout and installed a new ZZP Coupler. Didn't add any oil, I'll be waiting until shortly before the install to refill with new oil.

I also filled the Silencer ports with QuikSteel (As Machinegunsquid did). It isn't the prettiest job, but they are completely covered and that sh*t is as hard as rock. Kind of a pain in the ass but hopefully the whine will be worth it. :)

Started painting the blower as well. Two coats of primer, and 3 coats of red on select areas. That's as far as I got today. Im bringing the Gen V inside for the day/night so the red paint can fully cure. I have pretty cool paint scheme i'll be doing. That's why I'm going to take multiple days to complete it, since I have plenty of time before install.

Here's the only sneak peak picture you get, and don't mind my 2 minute tape job :th_laugh-lol2:: (And thank the lord who ever invented these garage heaters, nothing like working/painting on a sub-zero degree day in shorts). ;)

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V.

It wont. QuikSteel bonds to any metal and is water/chemical resistant. Good for -90* and temps past 500*

Takes 5 minutes to dry and one hour to cure. And when I say its as hard as rock, I'm not kidding.

Nice, looks like you're going for a 2 tone paint job, it'll prob look sick bro. I shoulda filled my silencers lol, but some people make me nervous with how they talk about em.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V.

I have heard of stuff like that rattling loose and falling out... But if not I bet it will whine nice

Yeah two-tone. Red and Black obviously. It should look really good when finished, only if my patience holds up too it. It's not to hard to fill the silencer ports with QuikSteel, just make sure to pull the rotor pack out. Next time you replace your coupler (If you havent already) Fill the ports then. And trust me, RED, and Machinegunsquid, the QuikSteel wont break lose.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V.

Here's your picture you wanted. Told you its not the prettiest, but I used a pretty hefty amount. Filled the silencer ports, the covered it quite well. Stuck it in front of my heater for about 45 minutes and it's rock solid.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V.

Yep, used the stick stuff. They are essentially the same thing, though the 2 part liquid is meant to flow better (obviously)

When we say that stuff gets hard, it gets hard. I've drilled through it, and it takes longer to get through than aluminum.

So long as you do good prep work, give it a decent sized area to bite into, and don't let it get in contact with the rotors, you'll be good. I've got over 1k miles with mine in there, and when I pulled my blower, it was exactly how I left it.

Re: 1997 Black GTP, Now With Gen V.

I plan on removing the blower after 3k miles during the next oil change after the install to take a look at it.

If it looks like it's wearing away, ill take the dremel out and remove it.

Good choice. I would personally never fill the ports with anything like that. I've seen them come loose and the rotors eat it. Bye Bye rotors.

I am a bit nervous of it slowly coming off from the constant heat and abuse. Just curious, if you were too fill your Silencer Ports, what would you have done?

I wouldn't fill them lol. I've seen some people weld them shut, but then you take a chance of warping the blower case from the heat.

Not my blower, I found this pic on google. I plan on making up a plate like this at work sometime by the summer. I'm gonna EDM wire cut it. I think it would be safer then quick steel but more work, and I know not everyone has access to a wire machine.
