How I put a GenV blower on a SSM90 intake. They said it wouldent work.....

Frosty

I Write E85 Stickies
So a few months back I put a used zzp ssm90 kit on my car. I absolutely loved it and couldent have been happier. Fast forward to a week ago I was given a golden oppertunity to get a GenV blower that was grandma driven with only 100k on it for 290$. Asked around and everyone told me it probably wouldent work or that they didnt know if it would work.... So i did some measuring and thinking and decided to jump in, I ordered the blower and then ordered a northstar kit from zzp and gaskets and whatnot.

Before shot

Started to pull stuff apart

Fuel rails off

Blower is clear of obstructions

Plugging all holes... Seriously I had to pull a cylinder head due to a buddy dropping a nut down his intake

Checking how much im gonna have to cut off

Green sharpie... because... thats how i roll

Checking how much im gonna have to chop off to clear injectors

Black sharpie now

Follow the arrow

Prepairing to catch metal shavings

Cutting has begun... god im dumb

Cut complete.. turned out pretty good

Time to hurt the blower

Poor thing

Major cut to clear the fuel rail done

My diy evap blockoff plate

Cut for the injector

It worked

Gasket prep

Everything coming back togeather.... northstar on

Ready for first start

Flashing maf tables

Video of the first start.... Pardon the excitement

First start of GenV swap on grand prix gt - YouTube

It runs like a top... Needs quite a bit of tuning but good god does it pull hard. Dyno date is this coming thusday.

Are those injectors perpendicular to the LIM?

Just curious because your intake valves might not stay as clean as if you had the proper injector placement.

Might also make tuning rather a PITA as fuel would be evaporating off the runner walls at different rates depending on the LIM temp.

How far off is the tune while it warms up?

Well its the ssm90 kit from zzp where they machine injector holes into the gtp lim. The injectors point straight up and down but are in basically the same spot as the stock gt lim. When i last had a look down the intake ports everything seemed ok. The tune was crazy far off but thats mostly from having to put the lq4 maf on the northstar tb. For whatever reason it was almost -15% long term trims in some places. I did two maf tunes and now its withen 5% but ill probably do one more. My wideband decided to die a while back so i had to use the stupid narrowband.... basically had to adjust fuel till the narrow looked around 940 and i had no kr. Dyno date with wideband is on Thursday.

Are you running the 3.8 pulley on the GenV?

If so do you have headers to put on, I wouldn't think the Plog and a D/Pipe would flow sufficiently for that blower on that pulley, with a high compression L36 lower anyways. Just don't want all the work to cause problems on the dyno. If its knocking hard make sure they don't try to tune past it.

Boom Boom is a bad result after all this work.

I was running a 3.6 pully on the fully ported gen3 with absolutely no kr issues whatsoever. When im up at school (much higher elevation) I was even getting away with a 3.4 with no kr. The 3.8 pully on the genv is only giving me occasional spots of kr even with my guesswork tune and 20 degrees of timing. Once I get the wot fueling right im sure itll be fine again. Im not only running the 3 inch dp and plog, also ported my rear manifold, have er rockers, northstar tb (less inlet restriction = cooler boost), and a 180 tstat.

Also i rented the dyno for 2 hours for ME to do the tuning. I dont trust anyone but myself. Gonna get my afr locked in at 11.5 to 11.7 and then add timing up the butthole. Then this summer im switching back to e85 and going with the 3.4 pully (I didnt buy the 60lb injectors for the spray pattern lol). Headers and a intercooler are also going on the summer.

yeah, I was there. I recoreded that video... just thought I would mention that since no credit was given. ;) JK. but anyway, yeah the swap made a massive difference over his gen3.

Why... I usually shoot for 11.7 and then add timing untill i hit 20... After that ill lean it out to 12 and if its all still happy its time for a smaller pully

basically had to adjust fuel till the narrow looked around 940 and i had no kr.

seems like random numbers from the narrowband to me.

Even still, if you can run 20 degrees, you can run 15 and more boost.

Read about a sentence further.... I normally have a wideband... since mine died and i havent replaced it yet I have dyno time with a wideband at 1:00pm tomorrow.

Maybe I'm a tard for not knowing, but I'm curious about who manufactured your sc pulley... can't say I've seen any like it. Who makes that?

ZZP makes it. Allows me to run the blower off the accessory belt. Cant find any decent gtp tensioner setups to swap on. Works really good without any belt slip. Only thing that sucks is that the smallest possible pully due to the snout is 3.4.... so im ok untill this summer when I switch back to e85. By then im hoping i have a gtp belt setup.

That setup is really cool on the accessory belt, didn't realize that was possible.

Can you not mod the snout to fit it? I realize the pulley sits much further back and its probably due to the spines on the snout, but can't they be machined down a bit to fit a 3.0-3.3?

Oh and what did you mean by "Cutting has begun... god im dumb". What did you do that was dumb? I couldn't figure that out.
