Air bag light

Hello all, I have an airbag light on, and I'm trying to pass inspection, and I was wondering what r some things I could check? I already checked fuses and relays. Thanks
 


i passed in jersey with a airbag light on.

could be the clock spring, the wires under the seat, the yellow wire under the dash, or maybe the abs module under the pass seat and under the rug. its the small box, you cant miss it.
 


i actually forgot to check the steering wheel buttons on my post-repairs inspection of everything.. will make sure to check that in the morning, along with the other suggestions. thanks all

they dont do emissions anymore either. last time i went i passed with the a/b light on, a broken driver side mirror and 4 bald tires.

they did really nothing test wise, only the gas cap, the wipers and they looked for the cat and the obd 2 port was scanned.
 
What cel's will jersey let go? If any? And my steering wheel doesn't have the buttons. And random question, I noticed some white tail smoke this morning. It was a thin light smoke. Dissipated rather quick, and didn't have a sweet smell. Could this be bad? Or just the crap weather? Or am I just too paranoid? Lol
 
if your check engine light is on its a instant fail here. they will give you a print out with the code on it.

air bags they let slide now i guess.

crazy thing is Jersey used to be real tough on its motorists. you could fail for a rust hole in a bumper back in the day, glazing on a mirror, all these little BS things.

good part is its free to be inspected as as many times as needed till you pass.

back in the late 80's i went to inspection in my firebird and failed for emissions, pulled off to the side, turned my mixture screws back in a 1 turn each on the carb. backed right up the end of the line, like your supposed to to for re inspection for a failed car, and passed. the guy knew what i did too. lol
 


the pre 96 cars they go under the hood and hook up to your engine and run a diagnostics on it that way. this kid had a real pos **** in front of me, when they did all this he was like im failing lol and he passed.
 
yea, i remember back when i lived in jersey how much it sucked when it was inspection time haha. as soon as i moved to pa, they changed the inspection, not cool...lol my friend in jersey said that they give you quite a bit of time if it doesn't pass though
 
no time limit, but if your driving with a failed sticker, you have 30 days to get it right, after that its a $200 ticket for un inspected. if you get stopped for it.
 
what are some of the fuses that affect the airbag? like ar there any not labeled airbag that will affect the srs light?
 


not sure about fuses.

if you take it to a body shop they can scan it, and they will most likely charge you for the scan as its a 7,000 dollar scanner.

that should help find the problem.

all you can really do with out just trowing parts it the problem, is to check your connection under the seat, the clock spring wire by the obd2 port( its yellow) and under the pass side seat, remove it, and lift the rug, there is a box under the carpet. un plug it and unscrew it from the floor, if there is corrosion at the mounts sand it off, if your unit opens, open it and clean up any more corrosion you may find.

its always best to un hook your battery before messing with the air bags. any yellow plugs you see are air bag related. open them, grease em shut em.

if you have the leaking cowl, and your carpet gets wet, or used to get wet, this box could be your problem. seen them sell for 40 and less on the net. you have to make sure the part # is the same if you want to try changing it.

that is my next step one of these days to fix my air bag light. its the last light i have on since i got the car and the hardest so far to get resolved on my own, i had my car scanned and it was open driver side loop, i had no radio controls working, so i changed my clock spring, got the radio controls back, but the airbag light stayed on. 1/2 a problem solved lol
 
i was trying to fix my messed up bumper today, and i discovered a loose plug sitting right under the hood latch in front of the radiator. it was unplugged, and i searched everywhere, and cant find a spot for it. the po removed the bumper once for something. could it just be that it goes to a crash sensor somewhere in the foam area? or is it not to anything?
 
if you dont have digital climate control. im thinking that plug would be for the temp sensor. it shows the outside temp. mine said a solid 100 deg today lol

all air bag stuff has yellow plugs too.
