Depends on the application. Low torque engines don't benefit as rotatiing mass from the heavier flywheel keeps things turning due to inertia, hence less bog. The offset is higher revs on the top side, which most street cars can't take advantage of.

Less inertia won't give "higher revs". That is a mega lulz.

The engine will have slightly better throttle response and greater tendency to stall.

Also increased NVH.
 
I beat my bfs LSJ when we were both stock. Especially bad from digs and 70mph punch.

After mods he tore my car up. Then again IM still stock.

Stock lsj, we can beat.
Stock LNF no. Unless they're awful drivers.

They take to mods more easily and see better increase of horsepower from light mods. But their torque numbers will always suck. I still stomp his ass from a dig.

the LNF is soooo different though. stock torque is 260ft-lbs at 2000rpms. the GMPP upgrade kit puts it at 340ft-lbs at 5400rpms. hell of a number for a tuned 4-cylinder. but yeah, i've seen 300+hp lsj dyno vids that still only put out 230ft-lbs or so.

i'm still waiting to see better trap times out of mine. still can't top the 14.47 i put up a few weeks ago. have good luck against mustangs though, for whatever reason. i can think of 3 4.6 cars and an SN95 i've taken off the top of my head. i'd say they need driver mod, but one of the 4.6's was a newer body style and automatic, even took me off the line, and ran a 15.1. not sure what happened there
 


keep in mind guys not everyone is a good driver, and every boosted ss is manual. Does it mean all GTPs will walk an ss? no but its possible, even though a skilled driver should take a stock gtp most of the time. I still dont get how the SS's cant hook with huge tires.

I ran a turbo cobalt with the GTP in my sig. had zzp hardpipes, 3"tbe, K&N, and "Trifecta" tuner at 24psi using NLTS. from a 20 roll everytime he pulled a half a car away from me he had to up-shift and lost his 1/2 length until 70 or so, then he pulled away. From a dig I pulled him by 10 lengths off the line and never saw him up to 120 when I let off........"u spin, i win". At the track I ran a different turbo cobalt, unknown mods i saw hardpipe, exhaust, and k&n. Same deal, rapeage off the line but he whizzed by about half track. He ran a 12.8 or something at one point though.
 
no kidding. 3500lbs isn't exactly light but it's really balanced. really easy to flick around. understeer can be a problem in the tight corners though, and you do get some body roll. but i know i've gone through a couple turns faster than i should have and was kinda surprised it held to be honest. and the new stability control programs can help you out

I however do agree on a 2.93 geared low compression SC 3800, because it took a pulley/exhaust/rockers for me to crack 100...but a 3.29'd high compression car shouldn't have any issue breaking 100+ mph by the traps with headers, ported heads/blower and a solid tune with a good driver.

OK i just noticed this, but 3.29s trap lower than 2.93's dont they? and run about .1 quicker ET?
 


60 foot times win races. that's why my firebird ran a 14.26 at 97 and i could pull a 15.2 at 99 in the cobalt
