The Big Bad Brake Thread

Before I go to ebay and drop some cash - can someone answer two questions:

1) From what I've read, we can use either the F-body brackets OR the C5 brackets. Is this true?

2) What is the safest rotor to use - since our bolt circle is 115 and Chevy uses a 114.3. I know there is "always" play in the rotors, but I just want to be certain that this play won't snap a stud.

Am I worrying too much??? Do I need another beer.

Please help.

Hevey,

I used the F body brackets that were drilled for the 14 mm bolts and they fit perfectly. I also used F body rotor. They fit OK also. The center alignment hole is the same and the stud holes had enough play to easily fit the stud pattern. They were Power Stop rotors that I bought from Summit. Hope that helps.

You're safe.

Apparently I lied *twice*. I wasn't drinking beer - it was wine. I was buzzed cuz I really lied about Chevy's bolt circle (114.3? what was I thinking?)

Anyway - if I decided to do a GXP swap instead, why do some forums talk about switching out pedals?

Well I have read if you put gxp brakes all around there will be more pedal travel. Installing a gxp pedal is the solution because the pivot point on the gxp pedal is different than the original pedal giving you a better brake feel. If you put the gxp pedal in you also have to make a bracket for the brake switch and tcc switch. I have also read that a brake booster from an impala will help with the spongy pedal feel because it is smaller and delivers more pressure I think lol.

Hey Matt do you know if the goodridge ss hoses for the grand prix will work with the gxp calipers all around on my 98 gp. By chance do you know what the gxp banjo bolts are I think its M10x1mm but I dont know the length.

No idea.

I'd imagine you'd want the longer lines that ZZP sells.

At the very least you might have to bend the tabs that hold the hose to the vehicle.

ok so about to do this uprgrade on my car but need a lil more infor just to be sure. i need new calipers too so corvette c5/c6/z51 calipers, Fbody caliper bracket, and pads for an 04+ grand prix? and these all bolt right on?

Pads from an F-body

You will need the Banjo bolts, F-body bracket bolts, if your calipers and brackets don't come with them.

I also suggest getting SS lines at the time, but you its not required.

Lastly, if your not gonna drill and tap the brackets then you need to get the spacer bushings

Hey guys whats up. I got gxp calipers and brackets for a steal and was wondering if a 13" rotor would fit those gxp brackets instead of the 12.7" rotors. They gave me the junk rotors but thur so heavy. Ive read that camaro rotors fit on our hubs fine, since they do what about using a 13" Baer Eradispeed Plus 2 two piece rotor for the camaro part #2302048. Or is the offset wrong and will not bolt up correctly. Thanks for the help.

You can only use the GXP rotors, 13" rotors will scrap the brackets.

Camaro rotors only fit if you are using the 12" ones as the holes are rounded out to be able to fit on two different bolt patterns.

Rotors are heavy but they aren't going to hurt you too bad, I'm running solid 1-piece 14" rotors, I still accelerate pretty damn hard and my gas mileage is still the same.

I mean, I do know what your on about with rotational mass and what not, but if you knew what our rotational mass was (roughly ~100lbs per axle) 2-5 lbs ain't gonna kill ya.
