The LS1 was built by the hand of God,.....

Slowpoke

So not banned.
I'm going to rant here. I recently checked up on a local forum I used to frequent a lot. Now I've seen the whole 03/04 cobra vs 98/02 camaro ss arguement to many times to count. And on a vehical specific site, I would expect to see fanboys defend their brand/car no matter how stupid/blind they sound. This however is just a local site, with a wide range of cars supported and represented. The typical LS1 arguement was presented, "ford needed to slap a supercharger on the lil ol 4.6 to keep up", and "put a superchager on an LS1 and see what happens".

Now I know that the basis for this arguement is apples to oranges. I've owned both platforms and have a healthy respect for both. I just shake my head when the above statements are made. Any or you guys LS1 guys? Do you think its really this simple? Is there a reason why forged internals, high vs low compression in F/I applications, an
d the huge aftermarket following advantage for mustangs over camaros is NEVER talked about? LS1's do obviuosly have the displcement advantage. They respond in amazing fashion to bolt on's. Besides that this is common knowledge, I know this from my own experience. I also know that 03/04 cobras are more then just a "lil ol 4.6" with a superchager. And that anybody with an LS1 will need to do a lot more then bolt on a superchager to equal the potential of the 03/04 cobra. So yeah, "slap a supercharger" on your LS1 (watch your psi). Cam it, spary it, does it really matter? It's all about who has the deeper pockets when you play that game. There is one point that the LS1 crowd just can't seem to grasp, in stock form, the 03/04 cobra is faster, handles better, and has WAY more potential. 03/04 Cobra > LS1 fbody.

Meh. Agreed it's apples to oranges. Got several friend who own both cars in both stock form and highly modified. The best comparison of power and times I can think of is a friend with a Helion turbo'd Cobra that is something like 715rwhp and a 98 Formula with a procharger that's all stock bottom end and 6xxrwhp. From what I've seen the Formula actually makes much better use of the power but again it's all depending on the rest of the car as well.

I'll take either one but I do miss my Cammed Formula that busted out 373rwhp. Such fun cars to drive.

I love both cars both are great platforms to make power. I just like the LS1 from the standpoint that it's much more straight forward to work on than the DOHC motors.

This is exactly why I ranted here instead of on a mustang or camaro specific site. Good guys here, with replies and view points that make sense. On the other sites it seems you have to click through 10 pages of bs before you find a post you can reply to. My intention here wasn't to bash the LS1. That are great motors, I would love to have another one. I just tired of the people who think the only difference between a new edge gt and an 03/04 cobra is a rear bumper and a blower.

I'm an LS guy, it was handcrafted by god herself and handed to the greatest car company in the world...but i do like the terminator. im not a fan of the ford interior or the fact that its only a stick. fbody interior isnt the greatest but it does have the auto as an option. theyre both american and both great powerhouses

I am a PURE gm guy, I have a camaro(pre LS) BUT, the 03/04 cobras are nothing short of nasty...

oh jesus i dont have enough room or time on this forum to explain my passion for both of these cars. to put it simply id give one of my nuts for the cobra and the other for the lsx... yes i would in fact have no ball sack but i would have 2 of the best v8 platforms ever made. done:th_thumbsup-wink:

I respectfully disagree with 03/04 cobras being better than LS1's...cuz when's the last time you've seen a 5,000 Cobra in decent condition? Yes stock for stock it's no doubt a Cobra will beat an LS1, but $ per HP I think hands down the LS1 would take it.
BTW I love LS1's and looked at plenty of them and my cousin has Cobra so i've been around both.

Not a big f-body fan, I'm a mustang hater but you know what the basis for any car argument should be? How deep are your pockets? Honestly, anything can go fast. These days it's just about personal preference.

Also don't forget that the Terminator has Satan's motor in it, so all you Cobra owners are going to hell you heathens :th_biggrin2:

The LSx guys are going to heaven

If I had both sitting in front of me and said pick one I would have one hell of a choice. Each have its pros and cons equally and it comes down to owner preference.
LS1 350 N/A VS 4.6 32V Supercharged
Both Rear Wheel Drive
M6 or Auto VS only M6
Leather or Cloth vs Leather w/suede inserts
Both have premium stereos but with exhaust who the hell cares right?
T-Tops vs nothing
made for 4 years vs 2 years
in 3 cars if you include gto vs only 1 car
Both have various colors
both have big aftermarkets
So in conclusion both have their pros and cons and quiet honestly I would probably pick a 04 Terminator. The LS1 was offered in the Camaro SS, Camaro z28, 04 GTO, Firebird Formula, T/A, and WS6. So in real fact the Cobra is a rarer car if you break it down. Who the hell cares if Ford wanted to slap a supercharger on the 4.6? What man doesnt like the sound of a supercharger coming from the car? Each car could go faster with more money of course if thats what your into then go for it I say but me I prefer to keep it mild and just have a great looking car personally. The cobra look sick as hell from front or behind especially with some nice wide tires in the back and the right set of rims but that goes for both personally. The 98-02 camaros are a great looking car also. I love the camaros with the center mount exhaust just freaking killer IMO. I would not buy a z28 or a formula. The WS6 is sick as well with the ram air hood and flip down headlights makes it a sinful looking car as well.

LS1 is 346 cu in not 350

LS1 WS6 is one of the ugliest cars i've ever seen.

Its on par with your regular rice rock done up autozone style...

Ouch. I loved the look of my Formula. V6 appearance with V8 performance

I'd love to have a WS6 Formula or a FireHawk if I was gonna get another.

Formy looks better.

Agreed. Here's my old one. I'd give a nut to get it back.

The entire front end was replaced cause of a chevy tracker. That's why the Pontiac isn't silver anymore

Okay something useful now....

I like both motors from both companies and now the new 5.0 motor is good as well.

Its just ashame that everything else such as interior, exterior and build quality was shody on all levels. The engines were solid, just didn't everything wasn't going to rattle off the car on the way to your destination.

I'm not liking this HP war...430 but then only 370 some odd torque...meh...same with with vq37's 330hp and only 260 torque....it goes with the fuel mileage war as well I guess....
