This is a reopening of a old thread about puting hud in cars that didnt come with it.My question is really is there any way to know which cars have the dash wire harness with the hud connectors on it.Im trying to see if it is possiable to know without pulling the dash apart.Thanks for any infomation or tips.

2000 GT Coupe
2001 special gt coupe

cars that do
most 97-03 GTPs have plugs/one example of a 98 gtp not haveing them
97-98 GTs have the plugs

not sure... but what I can tell you is I ripped my brothers 2001 special edition GT Coupe dash apart to find out it did NOT have the plugs. :th_angry-pissed:

Im sorry for ur bad luck but thats part of one year and model down
01 special gt coupe dosent have it

Any one else this happen 2 or completed the install and had the wires already
 
This is interesting seeing how I eventually would like to put a HUD in my car too. I think once enough people have chimed in someone should compile a list and make it a sticky so the information isn't lost.

ok, this hopefully will be that list but I have a long way to go to make it worth something.
 
mine had the plugs :) super easy to do since they were there :)

Doesn't take all that long to check either. May as well check your car before buying parts though (if you don't want to deal with splicing)
 
all 97-03 GTPs have plugs. didn't realize some didn't come with HUD..

97-98 GTs have the plugs. GTP was an option rather than it's own trim for those years. realized how much money they were wasting on the wiring.
 
i think the DIC/HUD plugs are completely seperate, but not entirely sure. only way to find out is to take out the speedo cluster and look for the HUD plug. takes two minutes.

luckily i have an old ass 97 and had both plugs. it took me maybe 30 minutes to install both including cutting the dash.

my 98 gtp DID NOT have hud plugs, was i ever pissed when i saw that cause i already had all the stuff to put the hud in:th_angry2:
 
^^WHAT!? that's insane. every single 97-98 i've seen/heard of considering HUD had it... but then again they were all GTs, as i've never come across a local GTP without HUD.

i know...ive seen 2 other gtp's in my life that didnt have a hud, and they were both base GTPs with cloth, no sunroof, no hud, cassette player..my car has every option except CD changer, hud and sunroof. I wish i was good at wiring and i would just splice the wires, but i know i would royally f it up lol
 
The list is more complete now,but still need postings in two series

2.help clearing up on gtps not haveing them,the 98 as example
 


my 99 gt did not have the plugs. Not all of any of these years of cars have the plugs, some do and some dont its as simple as that. I was told that mine should have it and it didnt. If your car has a digital dic it will more than likely have the plug for the hud but still no gaurantee. mine had an analod dic and no hud and didnt have any of the plugs however if you can follow directions and have the skill level to install an after market stereo you can do this I just added both the digital dic and the hud to my car the scary part is cutting the dash. Ninnygtp has a nice post on the conversion but you can also google it and there are several but ninnys has the easiest wire conversion chart. also the digital dic from a 97 will only work on a 97 SO DONT BUY THE DIC THAT HAS CHECK TIRE PRESSURE! I WASTED HOURS OF MY LIFE TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHY IT WOULDNT WORK THAT I WILL NEVER GET BACK!!!!! LOLOL:th_nanana:

I recently bought a 1999 Grand Prix GT Coupe. Its my first Grand Prix but both my parents and my brother have Grand Prixs. Anyways, I bought this car as a Second Owner now and it has 267,000 Miles all Freeway. It came with the HUD installed. I was wondering if this is a rare feature or aftermarket? Thanks

no its not aftermarket, nor is it very rare..a lot of GTs and most GTPs have it
 
Rather B Blown, you might have had a special ordered GP when it was new. As in, the original owner sat down in the dealership and checked the option boxes, and when it was specially built, they didnt install the HUD wiring. If youre the original owner, then im stumped.

Other than that, to answer Soviets question, most all 97-98 had the DIC-HUD wiring, except for rare occurances.

Some 99's have the wiring, others dont. Its hit or miss.

2000+ do NOT have HUD or DIC wires in the dash. No matter what trim, option, or color GP it is, if it is a 00+ it will not have the wires. No need to make a detailed list.

And as mentioned earlier, DIC's are compatible as follows:

97's compatible with 97's only
98-02 are interchangeable
03's stay with 03's (because of the optional traction control, and the general differences of the 03 PCM.)
