sheesh man, thats awsome. that engine was nasty! you sure did turn that around...
what is colorsanding exactly? and would you mind telling me what the polish/wax process was that you used. I am big into detailing myself and just like to learn new stuff. I used Meguiars and Pinnacle glazes myself along with their waxes. I havent tried the Menzerna stuff, heard good things about it, also havent tried Zaino (too expensive and time consuming for me).
Also, what was the white stuff you had on the trunk when you were taking off the brown crusty residue? and how did you make that look so good?
Oh, and I am glad i'm not the only person who probably looked like an idiot crawling into the back of my trunk and disappearing for 5 minutes :th_laugh-lol2:
Hahaha, nope, there are more of us idiots than you may realize.

As for colorsanding, it's a process learned rather than taught... If you're going to attempt it, I'd recommend a spare hood or body panel from a beater to cut your teeth. Basically, it involves wet-sanding the paint in order to level the surface- Removing orange peel, contaminents, etc. I usually start with 1200 grit paper on factory finishes, and depending on the refinish job I go as low as 1000. You then gradually come back with a finer grade, 1500, and onto 2000 paper, and bring the surface back with a high speed polisher and compounds, glazes, etc. It's tedious, and if you're not careful you can ruin paint in a hurry. I'll scour around for a write-up (because I'm lazy and type for crap) and link it for you.
Here are a couple of my old Z/28 during colorsanding after I painted a few panels on it.
And a few during, and after buffing.
As far as the Zaino, it's actually one of the more user friendly and cost effective "Premium" finishes. There are more optically perfect products out there, but for most events you may enter, the judges can't differentiate it from the hardcore stuff costing over $100 for 4 ounces. Hell, I use it on my damn truck, and it's worth the small price premium over a premium Carnuba or poly glaze all day long. Not to mention, the Z actually has a sunscreen, and in Florida, I do care.
The whit shiz on the trunklid was just foaming cleaner to remove the layer of sod growing under the spoiler.
