Looking to buy gtp

hey new guy here looking to purchase my first gtp. have a few questions:

1. is there a buyers guide somewhere that can tell me common things to look for? i have bought and sold many cars and am very mechanically inclined but it helps to know what things to shy away from.

2. mileage, how long do these usually last? im looking at cars in the 120-150k miles, is that too much? if a nice clean one is 160k+ do i want to walk away or are they pretty reliable?

3. i have an 11 month old and will need to put in a child seat, do they come with anchors? i tried searching and i seen a couple people wanted to put anchors from a 2003 in there. what are my options? seat belts are just not safe imo.

4. ive always heard to stay away from the 97 gtp as its a different pcm or something and they are not as good? does it have a weaker trans? i read the 97 gt has a crappy trans, not sure about the gtp. i keep finding great deals on 97s but im not sure if i should bother.

thats it for now. im sooo excited to get one, i have always wanted a 4 door car that actually goes. i hope i put this in the right section.

My car has 150k on the bottom end is running fine. There is nothing really major to look for. Just buy a stock one and you should be fine. There are many that go 250k+. 97 gtps have the same trans as 98-02. 03 they got a few upgrades.

Don't worry about mileage. The 3800 is an excellent motor. As long as it is stock you should be okay. 250k really isn't out of the question on a stock motor.

I actually think the 97 transmission is a little bit different than the other years. Someone else will be able to chime in on this. The '00 was the last year for the performance shift button I believe.

As for the anchors, I am not sure. I have never really paid attention to see if they are in mine (2000) and I would go check but its way to cold out to go outside. I will try to check in the morning to see if mine has them.

I see you have a Rusty as your pic. What do you have for RC's?

Anchors only come on the 01 and up... But most of the newer car seats you can use the lapbelt. Thats what I do if I have to put the car seat in the GP.

just shy of 135k on my gt bottom end. 97' gt's have the weaker vacumm controlled trans, the 97' gtp's use the same as all the other years besides the 03' and yes 97's also have a different pcm

sweet that makes me feel great about the mileage, i was worried since it is a FI car from the factory that they wouldnt last long. go GM!

yeah its a traxxis stampede electric. got a 3300 6 cell for it. i couldnt afford to get anything else lol. so for now this is all i have. i would love to get one of the brushless ones that they sell now, or upgrade mine.

damn. i cant stand using the lapbelt and its nice to have the top achor for forward facing. i read somewhere you can add the top anchor from like a 2003? i saw a thread where someone put 2003 seats in his and it looked like it came with all the anchors, maybe thats an option?

haha My dad's tranny in his s500 **** the bed at 89,000 miles and cost $5,500 to fix and my gtp which only cost me $5000 has had no major tranny issues knock on wood

check for LIM leaking signs on an 03 or older model...
very common

yeah ive read on how to fix them and watched the video. pretty straight forward fix ive done worse. probably wont turn down one that needs it but will help a lot with negotiations as its a costly fix if you pay labor. whats the signs of a leak? coolant/oil pooling in the intake? or is it harder to spot?

yeah and if yours does go out you can get a stronger one for like $1500.
