Naturally aspirated benefits with high octane gas?

hey sorry if this is posted somewhere else, if it has i havent found it. I have a GT with K&N FIPK CAI, and magnaflow mufflers. My car is naturally aspirated, i have no turbo or supercharger with a stock PCM. It says to run my car on regular octane. Would i see any benafits at all if i go to premium? would i get a few extra hp?? or would it just rape my car? thanks guys.

No added benefit with an N/A application. I had a cammed L36 with full exhaust, intake, hv3, and ported heads and I decided to get a 5 gal can of 104 octane unleaded and it did absolutely nothing for my times.

yeah, your car wont knock as much which means it will run better. anyone that says you dont need high octane on a car that you drive hard is an idiot.

In my opinion, unless it is tuned and raced use what the manufacturer calls for. It may seem a surprise to many, but the manufacturers do spend lots of time developing their vehicles, if they say use 89, 91, 93, 105 oct then why mess with something engineared for that type of fuel. I know many will say the manufacturer has no idea what there doing and they know how to make and run a vehicle better, but for my money I just stick to what the owners manual says. My 2 cents worth take what u want from it

have you scanned a bone stock GT lately? they knock from the factory, especially when you run them on 89.

Premium burns slower so will will get worse mileage. The only reason it helps your injectors is that premium usually has more detergents in it.

Premium should be burning quicker to produce more power.

With premium you can get better timing which actually increases fuel economy as well.

What out raising timing you will get worse mileage it is a proven fact.

I think that's what he is getting at...you can run more timing with higher octane. Alot of newer vehicles have sensors that detect the octane rating and adjust spark accordingly.

My view of the octane debate used to be run what the owners manual said, my 01 4 cylinder ford ranger had no performance improvement with 93 octane over 87 and the mileage remained at 25 mpg.
Though Bio had me thinking and put 93 octane in my bone stock GT this week and my mileage went from 18 to 21 mpg with my usual city driving. Since I don't have a scanner I can't test myself but when (low rpms?) and why does a stock L36 knock? Is it the compression of these motors compared to others?

They all knock from the factory, has a Stock L36 ever chipped a piston running 87 probably 10 or 20 out of the millions of L36's out there....Stock car, Stock tune, run 87..... If 93 makes you feel more comfortable though, I guess the extra 2 bux a fill up is worth it

A modded L26 or L36, Especially one with a PCM Tune SHOULD be running at least 91-93 octane. Especially since the timing will be a bit higher than stock, which is the main reason why a tune make more power on those motors, it all in the timing....
