2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE (LOTS OF PICTURES)

Hello folks, I would like to show you all what I’m doing to my GP. I bought this car in 2003 and drove every day. Then not too long ago I thought the car was coming apart. So I parked it and bought my wife a new car. I ended up taking it to a friend that told me that the repairs were not that bad after all. So long story short, it has become my new toy to play with. I have looked a bit here and other places and I don’t see many SE's being worked on. Can’t imagine why, but I’m going to anyways. Hope I don’t get kick out for what I done so far.

Re: 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE Modfest

As you can see I started with a clean 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE. In this photo I replaced the headlights assembly’s with OEM's so that the car would pass state inspection. The mileage is 101,000 miles.

So the first couple of things I did was first go to the junkyard and find myself a GT rear bumper. It was a good day because I also found a dual exhaust that bolted right up to the car. The next thing I had done was new dual tips.

Re: 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE Modfest

There is one reason there are no SE's being done...it's the 3100. There is very little aftermarket for them and no one really wants to be different I guess.

Re: 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE Modfest

Here are the dual pipes that were added along with the bumper from the junk yard. The reason for the bumper is on a stock SE there is only one exhaust port and I wanted the dual exhaust look. In this photo you might notice fresh looking tail lights. I needed to replace them to pass state inspection. The originals filled up with water

Joe, some of the SE's had the 3800, even with the single outlet exhaust system.

Looks like it's in pretty good shape though.

Re: 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE Modfest

The next step for the SE was a new wing on the trunk I have always liked the stock wing but I think it’s time for a step up.

The only thing left original on the rear of the car at this point is the trunk lid. So now from the back it looks like anything but an SE

So at this point I have started on the front of the car first. I replaced the original headlight assembly with stock ones for 2 reasons. One the original pair was so badly faded and discolored that it would not pass state inspection. Second, I like the look the factory lights had.

That being said I got a second set of light assembly’s. They are projector lights. For me I think it gives the car an even more aggressive look.

That brings me to the next big buy, rims and tires. Rims I been buying them one a week or so till I had all 4. The size I went with was an 18 inch rims and put on them 245-45-18 Goodyear tires.
Before with stock rims and tires

After with new Rims and Tires

I’m planning on getting a new hood for the car soon. That’s one of the next body parts to get before I put it in the paint shop.

Re: 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE Modfest

Today I ordered an F1 hood from Stinger Fiberglass Designs. I was told it will take 7 to 10 days till it’s shipped. They make each of their parts by hand. Iwas told that it should be a bolt on part as long as the car is straight. Well this car never was hit so it should be fairly simple. (Yea right) I’m real excited for this part to be installed on the car.
It was a nice day out today so I took the car out, got it washed and on one of my stops I turned around and snapped this photo.

oh no looks like you have a little dent on the driver door by the handle.. will you have the paint shop fix that? you might consider trying to pull it out with a suction cup if there aren't any creases in the metal

Re: 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE Modfest

Good eye. No thanks to my lovely neighbors that live across the street from my house, they took it upon themselves to redesign my door for me. They elected to use their beloved 1985 Ford Aerostar to do this delicate modification to my door. Stupid Jackwagons neighbors! Oh and here the kicker, they don’t have insurance and didn’t give me a dime to fix it.
So I got a door from the junk yard that I will replace it with when I put the car in the body shop.

Re: 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE Modfest

Looks great compared to where it started. Now you just need to get some side skirts, get that door replaced, and get it all painted.

Re: 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix SE Modfest

Ok so I spent some time looking for the lower door and rocker molding, I can’t seem to find anywhere OEM parts for a 4 door GT or better. My last idea I have is to check out a junk yard but got to think finding good hardware is going to be a trick as well. I’m wondering if yall think this is a big deal if it not there, and why if it is.
