Don't know how many other people here have put an aftermarket shifter in their car, but it should be exciting. I'll be sure to take plenty of pictures and post up a little guide, I suppose.

When you buy one it's for 3 and 4 speed shifters. You need to swap out the plate. I'm quite positive they send both detent plates with.

Edit: I just checked to make sure and I ordered B&M 80842 which fits a 700-R4 which has the same detents as a 4L60E which has the same detents as a 4T65E-HD.

I'm gonna see if the tuner can make it so that it'll ride the rev limiter when I have it in performance shift mode and select a lower gear (like, it'll wind it ALL the way out). Since I'm gonna have a shift kit and a tune, it should be pretty stout. With P/S off, I'd prefer I'll see if he can tune in lower line pressures and hopefully everything will remain at least moderately comfortable.

I'm not looking for it to for me to shift, though. If I wanted that, I'd get a manual valvebody.
 


my brothers old chevelle had a semi manual valve body in the trans. if put in 3 aka drive, it would shift on its own. but if you put it in first it would not shift till you shifted it. same for second. not sure if thats tune able or not. i would think maybe it would need valve body work to make it hold the gear.
 
I guess you could call the tapshift/geartronic valvebody semi manual. It will hold a gear forever.

And there is merit to winding it out.

The quiet 3" exhaust, race gas, meth injection, stock car with tiny pulley guy had some gains.
 


That's pretty fancy. I've always like those shifters. It's probably nicer to use when down/upshifting compared to the stock shifters in our cars. They're pretty sloppy.
