ZZP vs cam setup...Gains?

The s1x is arguably the best stage 1 cam out here. The NIC makes more power upon the install (after a good tune), but it dosn't have a lot of potential after that. Plus zzp promises 12's with just the NIC cam, a pulley and a tune....:th_liar:, but most can't seem to get out of 13's with those mods. The s1x generaly puts down better track numbers than the xp! Thats a bad @ss cam. Only reason I chose the VS is because of money. There's less valvetrain work involved:). Plus I'm looking for low 13's maybe a hight 12 after I tear the tranny up, I'm getting a race trans and I'm done modding for quite a while.

VS cam was a good choice.

Okay I just installed my VS with 3.3 pulley, 3 inch DP with No cat, No res. 2.5 inch pipes back to stock Y and stock Mufflers, SSAC Headers 104's and drilled 180 t-stat. HOLY SH!!!T IT SCREAMS. I'm very happy with the results. I have a custom tune from Big worm's performance shop. One of his GTP's runs mid 13's and mine is Clearly faster from any roll or a dig. I can't wait to get to the track and see what it does!

That sounds pretty good. I want to do this cam as well. What idle have a lot of you guys set it at for a nice sound?

there is actually not alot of people that run that cam. so you might not get to many replies on that.

but if your custom tuning, just play with it till you find the idle that you like.

Thanks. Just one more thing I was wondering while we are on the VS cam topic. When installing the cam, do I need to have a custom tune before running the car/driving it or can the car be driven after the install with no tuning? The reason I ask is, I would probably go to Will/Overkill for tuning, assuming I could get a hold of him, but he's a couple hours from me atleast. I can't do it any time soon this year unfortunately, but it's good to research.

you can drive the car, but it wont be up to its potential and a bunch of things have a possibility of being way off.

I ran the car with no tune, 3.3 pulley and 90# springs for about 4 days and it was really impressive. It sounded great and performed like I wouldn't imagine. But after I took it back to clear a couple codes and tune it, ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE:th_skull:. I was more than happy with no tune, but tuning it helps you stay in the cam's powerband. There is a HUGE difference. I got my shift points set at 6200 and my AFR tightened up, and we wont even talk about the skip shifts... Holy..:th_laugh-lol2:

Here is a vid of my first day with it with no tune. The tourque is rediculous

and this is why i like the VS more than the XP. it actually has a usable powerband and isnt a max effort WHP cam.

s1x > VS > XP

but, id rather go custom and as big as i can go without destroying things in the process. small cams are boring and work better with turbo cars. if i were to make a cam right now for an m90 car it would be a similar design to a NIC, except much bigger.

VS cam looks like the one I'll go with. Good info guys. Thanks OrangeL67 for posting the vids that sounded awesome :th_skull:

Hey no problem! So far i have taken down a 2010 Stang GT. New v6 camaro, Ls1 firebird (that firebird was a beast) and an ls1 vette (until about 3rd gear when he started haulin @ss like crazy) and countless ricers! :th_thumbsup-wink: If you get headers, I'm positive you won't be dissapointed

The VS cam is a great cam, and the plus of it is that it doesn't tear up your valvetrain as bad as other higher lift cams.

It's crazy I made this thread just a few years ago. Now I make enough power to be on the top 5 XP cam list. GPforums helped me all the way. Damn I was a noob lol.

Thanks. Went through this thread sometime ago trying to decide the difference and what I wanted to get.
