• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Won't start after cam install

To summarize, here is a list of my problems:

- Engine runs very rough and shakes
- Loud tapping noise (sounds like valve cover, but I don't know)
- Huge amounts of knock retard at low speeds
- Bogs down/surges at higher RPM's, leaving me with no power (especially after 3000 RPM)
- Feels like it hits the rev limiter at 4000 RPM
- Takes an extra second to start up, kind of stumbles a bit
- No DTC's

the knocking sound youre hearing is causing your high KR readings. knock sensors 'hear' things so any knocking sound the motor is making will be reproduced as KR. like matt said, find what's knocking.

i just bought a $15 stethascope specifically for autos. works great for pinpointing noises. got mine at sears :)

maybe you can use that to find your source of noise.

What's the most probable cause of a frequent tapping noise? Lifters? Would tapping lifters cause a huge problem like the one I'm having? I'm having a lot of trouble figuring it out.

make a vid of the noise, from under the hood this time. move the camera around different places maybe someone can pinpoint the noise type.

I looked underneath by my harmonic balancer, and the belt seems to have quite a bit of movement underneath the pulley, going towards the AC compressor. It flaps quite a bit down there. Not sure how much movement is acceptable.

yea its the rockers. they aren't torqued to specs. same thing happened to a friend who did a s1x cam and his car misfired and ticked.

I just checked the front valve cover. All the rockers are torqued properly. Started it up, and they sound and look fine. I started it up with the cover off and it seems like the sound is coming from the belt area. My tensioner pulley is bouncing around like crazy. I'm not sure if it's something internal causing that or not.

have you removed the belt yet to see if the ticking goes away?

a bad a/c clutch can and will snap a belt if its going, and makes a good deal of noise. happened on my truck when the compressor went bad, a/c still worked but the belts kept on breaking till i got a new compressor.

If the balance shaft was out of sprocket alignment, could it cause this? My shakes so bad. I swore I lined it up though.

I watched your videos, and I have never seen a supercharger belt also go around the alt., usually the supercharger belt is stand alone, maybe it has somthing to do with the pulley?
Anyway, from watching your vidoes I can say it sounds like its running on 5 cylinders, and judging by the "kickback" when cranking the engine, there is a good possibility the firing order is not correct, point being, there is an ignition anomoly, timing, fireing order, bad plug, burt/broken wire... or somthing.
