First forum ever for me....got a question. ('97 SE 3.8L 107K miles) Cannot hear the heater/ac fan run unless it's on 5; also, ac only works (as judged by the indicator lights) if fan is on 5. And rear defogger only works when fan is off.... Help---winter coming, Thanks.
 


If the fan speed only works on 5, 9/10 chance it's the blower motor resistor that has gone bad. The reason only 5 works is because it's full speed and doesn't go through the resistor at all.

What happens when you try the rear defogger when the fan is on? The indicator light doesn't come on but will when the fan is off?
