with the top end, 325-355 hp is achievable for a street engine (not cheap), and 450-500 hp on a race engine. 3.8L
i developed a CNC porting program for the L32/L67 two years ago. its absolute performance was disappointing to me, and the cost was too high for what it was. I've been designing aluminum heads which use state of the art ports. they will flow well over 300 cfm - they're not bolt on. The relocated valves and port locations require a new intake manifold, and new headers - and may not fit in a w body. 500 hp comes at 8000+ rpm...big cam, titanium valves, rocker arms, forged internals, etc. the 3800 was designed as a low speed engine (with ****ty ports), so you can imagine that it takes a lot to get it to spin fast - a lot of money!
