What Would You Do?

Okay, so here is my question,

i am driving a 1997 Grand Prix SE. I live with a guy who is driving a 2000 GTP Performance Edition (which is hella nice imo).

Here is my question, i have a lot of hopes for this car, soon to be supercharged and what not, but here is my question.

Is it worth it?

Specs on the car are as followed:

Odometer: 211,XXX miles still runs strong imo,

As for the body there is no real rust anywhere but one small hole on the sideskirt on the passengers side, which i hope to soon replace with GTP sideskirts or just some replacements.

Prior to me buyin this car it was in a wreck of sorts, dont really know the extent to it due to it wasnt reported apparently. But you can tell, front bumper is just spider webed in the front right a little.

Other then that, a minor exaust hole around the flex pipe im assuming.

No signs of an oil leak, or any leak for that matter.

No dents anywhere that i can tell, (besides the front bumper which isnt dented just spider webed as stated)

Another thing i can think of is a bad TPS and Crankshaft Position Sensor.

And last but not least the ABS, Traction Control, and Low Coolant lights are always on. (SES is on also but only for faulty TPS / CPS)

So thats pretty much my story, so i just want some opinions if its worth fixing up and keeping or just try and sell and find a GT or something.

Its never broken down on me before, always starts and runs strong, doesnt overheat, gets me to where i need to go. Only powerloss i have is because of the TPS or so im assuming.

GP's has been a car i have always wanted (being only 19 and finally getting one i was amazed) and this one is very nice, handles well, comfortable for all my friends and i to go places, overall a very smooth ride.

So any thoughts/opinions are greatly welcomed. Hell bash me if ya want. lol :th_biggrin2:

Im here to enjoy the information people are willing to lend out.

Thanks.

(If you want any pictures please ask, i will post up anything you want pictures of)

eh... youre better off getting a gtp or gt to do the swap. SE just lacks too many of the options a gt or gtp has.

If it is payed off and you were planning on keeping it anyway...I say use it as a daily crapper and find a nice GTP and mod it ;)

Yeah its def paid off and what not, and that sounds like a good idea.

It shouldnt be to hard to find a GT / GTP to finance.

Or possibly save up a good bit of cash and try to buy one straight up like i did this one,

I was going to get a GT over this one, it was white, leather int, and it had a HUD. But they wanted like 6k for it, it had like 180XXX on it. So i went with this one, where they only wanted 2k.

So pretty much the all in one thought is dont waste the money to mod the SE but insted save and get a GT/GTP eh?

wtf!?!? 6k for a gt with 180xxx?!?!?

I bought my 99 gt for $2,500 with 113k, its fully loaded

IMO If you do end up getting a gt or gtp, your better off getting a 99-03.

Okay so i went in today to look at it,

it was an amazing car, looked good and was clean.

They were giving me 2,000 for my SE as trade in value and they wanted 800 down and 1200 over 6 weeks, (200 a week)

Then monthy payments of anywhere between 200 ~ 400 for the next 2 ~ 3 years.

Basicly they wanted like $9,000 for the GT.

So i will just keep looking.

dude for real, your looking in the wrong places. Find one locally, none of that Stealer-ship crap.

No joke...although...that blue-black metallic is a 2003 exclusive color and I am sorta biased that is VERY SEXY :D

But damn...hit up cars.com and don't be afraid to drive a ways for a nice car at a good price. Mine just happened to be about 10 miles from mah hawse so I bought it...mine was a bit pricey but it was fully-loaded minus the HUD (I hate it, but thats me) and it was SO damn hard to find a GTP without the HUD lemme tell ya. I got mine in early '07 and it was a '03 sedan with the blue-black metallic...even had a K&N Drop-In and the windows were tinted 20% all around and 10% on the back window :D Also she had just turned over to 40K on it with new tires all around with about 20 miles on them. The Dodge dealership where it was at wanted $14,200...I got it for $10K even with my $300 '86 Buick I traded in :p

Keep the SE and drive it for a while. Save up and get a GT/P. I really don't think it would be worthing working on the SE with that kind of miles.

Bluegtp-why don't you like the HUD? Personally, I think every car should have one. I am lost when I get in a car without it.

Maybe it is all of the drugs I have done in the past...trips me the **** out when I drive.

Ahh, well I'm addicted to it now it's hard to drive without one lol, guess I'll have to install one if I ever get an import.

Look on autotrader.com and craigslist............both have a ton of cars on them. You will find a good deal from one place or the other. Don't bother modding your SE. Does it even have the 3800 or does it have the 3100 in your SE. I wouldn't do it either way. I just paid $3800 for my 98 GTP w/ 100k on it completely rust free. It is loaded has all options other than Bose stereo as far as I know......just look hard semi-near you, you will find one

Wow those prices seem high. I just bought an 04 GT for 6595 CDN $. with 110k km (69000 miles) loaded except hud and sunroof.(I like the cdn version cause the dual analog speedo goes to 220 instead of 140 in the us version) Look around there are better deals out there. Even in Canada!!!
