I've been losing coolant somewhere.. no overheating.. ive been getting these deposits under my oil cap.. so i look under the hood today and i see some coolant around the thermostat housing as well.. do i need to replace lim gaskets and the thermostat gasket? i probably do, i'd just like to confirm.

a leaky T-stat housing gasket shouldn't put coolant in your oil.

Get a new t-stat housing gasket and call that one solved unless your hose is giving out or theres a crack in your housing somehow.

it's the first time i noticed it around the thermostat housing.. there's been a build up of gunk under the oil cap every time i've looked at it over the past few months lol

so its not in your oil... but getting in your filler cap?

Are you sure your t-stat housing or your upper rad hose isn't leaking?

condensation builds up in the crank case all the time. so long as its not covered in that goop then youre good. youll notice it when you drain the oil too since it will be all milky. if that is the case then youre 75% ****ed anyway.

so basically you're saying that my antifreeze is evaporating onto the filler cap and gathering up in deposits there? i should probably stop being lazy and change my lim gaskets?

trying to figure out why it's just on the filler cap still... and it's definitely just the thermostat gasket, that's the reason I have to fill up my radiator every week or two.

Bad Lim Gasket... that's what mine looked like before I changed it. Coolant is leaking from the passages and mixing into the oil. You need to fix it before you have some major problems.

I did mine around 120k ... the cheap plastic LIM gasket the factory uses fails all the time.

Yep, Because the Dexcool eats the plastic. The old 3.8 Bonnevilles that had the plastic gaskets and the old green coolant (before there was dexcool) the gaskets looked new after 125,000 miles. Some guy on the Bonneville Club tore one down. He did the same thing to a 02 GP @ 50k miles and the gaskets were trashed.

yeah i'm around 120k now.. am i gunna have to order this stuff? heh, i'm not even sure what i need yet.. maybe i'll do it tonight.. lim gaskets obviously, injector o-rings, coolant elbows that come out of the alternator bracket, oil, oil filter, thread sealer, gasket sealer, antifreeze... is there a list somewhere? the only writeup i found was dubob's movie. which i'm going to need to make some popcorn to watch.

i would love for it to be a pcv valve and thermostat gasket lol i changed the pcv valve last spring, so i'm not thinkin it's too likely that it's clogged already... but I'm going to check.
