My 99 had the original Dexcool 130,000 miles and I just changed it out. The radiator was completely clog free and fine, the hoses were not degraded, just 10 years old and my UIM gasket was not degraded away either. I changed the UIM and gasket since both were original though. Lots of BS out there and DexCool to this day.

I have to agree with you though, I too thought my 3800 would not have a well known issue like UIM gasket and manifold issues. Very disappointing but lucky I could do the job myself.

Isnt it the LIM gasket that goes? Typically have plastic ones from the factory which have a metal replacement available directly from GM.

Stupid headlight switch is useless.

At night, when the switch is off, all the lights are on, when you turn it to the parking light position, all the lights stay on, and when its turned to the low beam position, all lights are on. :th_thumb-down:

Its because when its crappy enough out the light level may not be low enough for the lights to come on by themselves. You've gotta have a manual light turn on... theres no fool proof system for headlights.

Most seem to consider automatic lights a feature. :th_thumbsup-wink:
 
I wish it had day runnig lights like my Blazer and Olds that i sold. I have been so used to not turning on the lights i almost got a fine in construction zone.

just take the light senser out of the dash (by the security light) and put a resistor in it. voila, functional light swith.
 


what i don't like about my grand prix???? It doesn't have a passenger side fender, and the door's messed up. just look at my pics.....you'll understand

Looks amazing right?!.......guess my father in law decided the cab needed a little chrome. I need to get it fixed a.s.a.p! That garbage bag on the door doesn't exactly scream "style" either

yeah how about NO! do that and be plagued by an incessant clicking for the rest of your life. the rest of your life because even if u get rid of the car or put the fuse back in, it will be stuck in your head forEVER. and it takes like not even 5 minutes to get a resistor in there.:th_laugh-pointup:
 
I would say the headlights, they fog up and water up. taillight chips off. what pisses me off that it seems to rust/bubbles easily in the rear sides, and around gas opener.

I cant say anything about the internal parts, i only owned it for 3 months.
 


i happen to love my grand prix..it has cost me alot to just make it run rite..and yea it was like a domino effect..every tues for 4 mos sumthin broke..i began to not wana get outa bed on tues nemor...but now i think im in the clear...its a beautiful car...if u asked me about a month ago i wulda named everything from the tranny to the rack...and everything in between..but now ive been able to experence it the rite way...cuz EVERYTHING mechanically is new...the only problem i have had that i cant fix or havent found one for it yet is the fact that when the window is cracked when its raining..the water pours onto the window switch (ive had to replace that too)..is this normal or wut?
