• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

What did you do to your Car today?

Well, I did just the fuel half of the SeaFoam treatment and WOW! It's like a whole new car!

Did some cleaning under the hood too.

Also, unhooked the battery for a while to fix some wiring issues and HOLY$#!+ Grand Prix with no check engine light!

Your abs light is on though ^^^

Yep. Before I changed the brakes and checked all the connectors it would go off half the time and come back on later. Now it's on all the time :(

Dpzelenak, you cursed me :th_angry2:. Got in it this morning to snatch the radiator fans out of the SE and there it was.

I blame you ;)

Took it to pepboys this morning for a suspension/steering and brake evaluation and DAMNNNN the list is long. The mod bug has got me in trouble as my suspension is completely shot. Everything from subframe bushings, to both front wheel bearings, control arm bushings and ball joints, all four struts are shot, 1 bad brake caliper and rusty rotors inside, 2 more bushings, and my rack and pinion needs to be swapped as well.FMLLL my day has been ruined :( Not even going to say the price quote. Oh yeah need all new tires and a small vacuum leak fixed that I knew about for the longest.

if you were to repair all that yourself i bet it would only cost 1/3 of the estimate they gave you. but thats a boat load of repairs.

If I had more know how and tools id do 75% of this stuff myself. But i do have a trusty mechanic place i go to and they know me well by now. They would be able to do this stuff for more then likely half of what pepboys is charging me.

thats all easy stuff i kid you not. do it, do it now lol

if you were to save up and buy all the new parts in advance, then in one day or a weekend at worst, that could all be done, lca's are easy, bearings are easy, the rack is a pita but well worth saving 500 right there. struts are cake too. and doing brakes is the easiest thing to do on a car. even if you have to swap a caliper. sub frame bushing the rears can be done when you do the rack because you need to drop the cradle 2 inches. after you bolt up the backs, drop the front and do the bushings there.

search some write ups and you'll see none of what you listed is all that bad.

and most tools you need are a $30, 30 piece socket set and a few large wrenches. and a hammer. and a 34 or 36mm socket to get the axle nuts off. still a better deal than a shop even if you need to buy tools. and you get to keep them.

Ill take that into consideration scotty. Sounds decent enough. I was planning on gathering all the parts first anyway we shall see how this goes.

I dread the day if I ever have to replace a steering rack on my GP. Everyone says it's a PITA, even those who are really good with mechanics. I think that's one beast I don't wanna mess with.

when its your turn, im guessing you'll do it because of the shops labor rate, easy 500 in your pocket. its not the worst job to do, its just all tight areas to work in. there's really not much to doing it.

It's not to bad at all i did mine the second time in about 1.5 hours tops.

Bought a replacement TPMS sensor finally. Probably getting tires this weekend then getting inspected.

Speaking of tires, I have a hookup with Firestone and was looking at the Firehawk GT's and the Firehawk Champion, which appear to be the replacement for the GT's. Anyone have experience with either of these tires? Good in rain? Decent enough in snow?
