Make sure its not the filter that's rusted out at the top. If you've changed it then that's probably not it. The filter on our impala leaked gas before I changed it lol. It was that rusted, in one spot mainly.

It put up a good fight. Luckily my grandpa had a long open end wrench i could put on the filter while gripping the line with channel locks.
 


That's the best way to do it ^ Vice grips on the line, against the body of the car, and long open ended wrench on the filter. I do it like that every time.
Yeah no problem, I've only seen that happen once and it happened to our impala. I kinda freaked out too lol because it happened like yours did, except it started pouring gas when I removed the filter bracket/holder. Thought I broke a line in half or something.
And yeah the lines never look good at this point, I used a paint brush and put grease all over the lines so they wont rust in the next few years at least. I also put antiseize on the threads of the line.
 
Maybe i will gain a few MPGs. I just wonder how much fuel i lost lol. Yeah there were a few small chunks missing from the filter i took it to a bench grinder with a wire wheel and cleaned it showing the spots. So glad that was the only problem because i didn't want to rent a flare tool and get rubber hose lol. Nasty stuff came out of that filter I'll tell ya.

I only broke the holder for the filter it kinda tore lol if you seen in my ride thread.
 
Those holders never make it to the 2nd filter. And I'm glad you still have all your fingers and arm/facial hair if you bench grinded a fuel filter :th_nervous:

I see it all the time, filters that have been on a car so long you get all this black crud out, looks like mud. They do clog up, quite often. One of the first things we look at in a running lean condition or intermittent misfire, slow start, hesitation, etc. More often than I would think, they cause those issues.
 
Well, i was hoping I didn't blow up.

I wasn't paying attention to start and used the grinder side of it and sparks flew and i yelled "Sheeeeeeeet" (you can see the mark in my picture next to the hole lol) then when i switched to the wire wheel side and i was like ahh this is better. Sparks are the reason i used a toothbrush to clean the threads of the line and not my wire brush.

Yeah my holder was rusted bad. I just bolted it on anyway.
 
I just found out that my work buddy has a 60x100 4 bay shop with everything I could ever need for a machine shop. 8 foot lathes, milles, flow benches, presses, valve guides, lifts, etc. He has an old Camaro that he built a full racing setup for, so I can't wait to see it, lol. He's going to teach me how to P&P and a bunch of other stuff, and I'm gonna teach him about computers.

**** just got real, I'm pretty excited. I think I might learn on my truck by porting my GT40Ps, it's already down for the winter so I can pull the heads off whenever.

I've done so many water pumps at work over the last year...I can say I've only done two on a 3800 out of, ehh I'd say 15-17. The engine I did the most on is the trailblazer 4.2L, which was 3. Actually did one today that topped the list of how much play was in the pulley. Check this out

That lead to it locking up and shredding the belt. It locked up due to the impeller inside rubbing on the pump body so much, from the belt pulling it down. It spun fine with no pressure on it.
Sucks driving those things with no power steering.
And I did do one on our impala's 3800 which would be 3 but it wasn't making noise, or leaking. It had a tad of play and said might as well do it now since I had the top half of the motor off, minus heads.
 
Did my follow up coolant flush to get rid of anymore dex cool lurking in the system. Stuff looks alot better this time than last.
 
Dex cool is some nasty stuff in certain, common situations, isnt it? Mix it with stop leak and holy crap.

I've made it my decision that having hid's in fog light housings is too glarey. So I've been using them as manual DRL's. Tonight I forgot to shut them back off and got flashed at a light, and promptly shut them off lol. I need to do a custom mod or something. Either go to a LED fog light which won't even be as bright as stock, or mod my housings so both can be in the same housing. That doesnt seem likely but maybe I'll figure something out. HID's don't have that glaring effect during the daytime. I may wire the hid's to the DRL circuit, so they stay on during the day, but as darkness falls and auto headlights turn on, the fogs will shut off and headlights turn on, and modded fog leds will be on as an option with the stock foglight switch. (For appearance only) So basically the foglights will switch from HID to led in an instant, automatically. And yes the DRL circuit does deactivate when the auto headlights turn on, which makes it perfect for this instance. That would be pretty cool. Of course the hid's would still have an aftermarket manual override switch.
