What did you do to your car today? Vol 2.0

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

High score, Russosaur! Best reading of the week at the very least. I do dig weed chix lol. If she smokes, she pokes. Reeking is just part of life.

My GTP had sticks of patchouli (head shop cover-up smell) incense stuffed into every hidden corner when I got it. Took months to find them all.

Ummmmm, ok?

Crap I got some electrical gremlins.

Got gas, started car noticed blower motor was slowing down and DIC was dim. Turn off blower motor DIC goes back to normal. Put motor back on 3, DIC dims, blower slows and then both turn off. Turn it back off they both come back and DIC is at 0s then comes back to what it had before. Do that a few times then it starts working like normal. Wtf?

Test the ignition stitch

I never thought of the switch taking a dump. How should I go about testing it, find a wire diagram and trace wires back to the switch and probe them to see what's going on?

Yeah find the wire coming out of the switch to the HVAC and dic. Voltage will likely be too low on just that wire

Just did this last week on a Chevy express. Tons of weird symptoms

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Could also be a ground. Basically that HVAC and DIC have something in common as far as power (either the positive or negative side) and something is wrong with that connection so it can't support the load of the HVAC anymore, so the DIC dims or shuts off.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Quick diag, multimeter on the fuse for HVAC/DIC. Start blower on speed one volts drop to 4v blower struggles to work, blower starts working volts go back up to 12v.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Sounds like the ignition switch to me, but check the voltage the same way you did on the fuse.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Alright more tests, blower motor unplugged DIC never dims. Blower motor on 1-4 dic doesn't turn on and blower doesn't work till a few seconds from ignition off to on. Once on any you cycle through 1-4 speed settings the DIC flickers as if a voltage drop once it gets going.

Note both are on different fuses. Looking through diagrams as we speak

Progress, found I think what I need, assuming I see a power drop at the other fuse I can assume the switch is conking out under load or I have something like the blower using way too much power.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

The other reason I mentioned the ignition switch is because that's a common failure part across a lot of GM vehicles really. Mine already failed on my 02. Blower would turn on and off randomly as well as auto headlights. Dic is not digital so no changes for me.
