What did you do to your car today? Vol 2.0

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Did someone say pain? I got hit in the face by a tire falling from the top rack at work the other day.. lol. That was fun.

Tire bar slip and smacked myself in the face split my eye brow wide open

Still? That's f'n crazy!
Everybody says that, but it's only been two weeks. LOL

Rained some yesterday and this morning, and more coming for the weekend. It isn't much, but every little bit helps. There is a nasty forest fire West of us (Harrison Lake) that needs some wet weather.

Dang! Not sure there is a plastic surgeon good enough to fix that mess! Sorry about your luck :( At least you'll get sympathy from people that think you were born like that....maybe even free ice cream at McDonald's :D Keep your chin up!

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

at least the tire wasn't attached to a car ... so god was indeed lookin out for you ... :th_biggrin2:

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

And as you all may remember I smashed myself in the face with a ratchet on Friday while laying on my back removing a stubborn bolt to get the LCAs out of my Stealth. I still have a fat lip almost a week later.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Both you guys are lucky to not have damaged teeth. I know you don't feel too lucky, face injuries suck bad. One thing is for sure, if you're not getting hurt or breaking things you sure aren't fixing cars. Rest assured that you'll probably have less car work related injuries as you go forward. However severity seems to trend upward, I know of many examples. I feel compelled to share my co-worker's current hurt progress...

My friend is a very wise tech only a month older than me and with tons more experience. Was putting a new gas tank in a car on a lift. While making connections before securing the tank, it fell. He instinctively tried to keep it from hitting the floor by sticking his foot under it. Luck wasn't with him and it chopped his ankle to the bone, on the front. Theres about an inch wide flange around the tank at the seam thats pretty much a knife edge. The surgeon said he could not have done such damage without doing surgery. In other words, it was a fluke but he could be permanently disabled. He visits the shop for short periods on crutches and isn't someone who can be stopped so he will be back. But man... see it can be SO much worse, count your blessings.

Another couple techs I know were removing a partially filled tank from a GM SUV and the younger assistant started getting gas on him because he wasn't keeping it level enough... so he LET GO. The other guy tried to catch it and caught a suicide-type wrist slash instead. Yep, the flange got him. It let a lot of blood out fast. Think mop after.

Heres wishing everyone no more close calls. I'll pass on a hard truth I've learned, that all would do well to bear in mind:

When you work on your car alone, the severity of risk involved increases dramatically.

End ramble. I have the day off and am about to work in the driveway with the car jacked up. So I'm gonna extra careful and keep phone very handy!

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

With as much blood as my lip produced immediately I thought for sure I knocked a tooth out. I actually felt the ratchet make contact with my tooth, but my lip probably cushioned it enough to keep any from breaking. LOL

back in the day doing the same thing, only it was a 1/2 breaker bar and who knows wtf bolt or car i was working on, but i pulled the breaker bar right into my nose. and broke it. blood everywhere!

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Sadly, if I had been using the breaker bar instead of the ratchet it probably wouldn't have happened. I got the bolt moving really good with the breaker bar, but got tired of repositioning every 1/2 turn. The bolt started getting tight again after I switched to the ratchet but I figured I would fight through it.

Instead it looked like I was in a fight when all was said and done.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

i was hanging off the bar when it came off lol the bolt was still tight as balls, socket just came off, i ate it all.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

I just gave my car the best wash of its life. Scrubbed everything super good (including underneath on the rocker panels), waxed it, cleaned the wheels, tire shined them up. It looks damn good right now. But I bet in one week, the wheels get covered in brake dust lol. Trunk is all clean, all windows are clean, but still need to vacuum the inside. But right now, it's the cleanest it will ever be.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Brings up a question I have. What is the method to get spotless windows? I ALWAYS end up with streaks or a light film. I want perfect factory clean glass.

I dry my car with 2 towels, one gets most of the water off, and the second one gets rid of all the water streaks, drying it with no streaks. I just take the more wet towel and wipe the windows down and take the second towel to dry it up. Works good from me.

ive been using a synthetic Chamois its like a sham wow deal. works great on windows. trick is not to let the water dry. then you get spots. so try to not be in the sun on hot days, if the car gets dry wet it again and keep drying with the Chamois. of some type.

also works good on the glass inside. ring it out so its damp and wipe the windows down. been using it on my tint too. so far no scratches.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

I use a shammy to dry everything off then usually go back and hit it with stoners and a page of black/white newspaper.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Just slotted a GT strut and have a few pics. IIRC we lack a visual how-to for that so I may post one shortly.

Never seen factory clean glass myself. Don't worry much about dirt lol. Seems like my new windshield gets nasty fast though. Idrive a pigpen.

One day I'll run across my stitches on forehead pic. 3/8" air ratchet... pulling on bumper bolt, caught the side of the (sawing action) ratchet head just above right eyebrow. It was like ten minutes before a brief blackout occurred. I finished tightening the bumper up first lol. It was several stitches worth.
