What did you do to your car today? Vol 2.0

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Did my first car mod ever tonight. Swapped stock air box for cone filter. Bought the wrong size 45 degree tubing. Gonna swap it out tomorrow and put it in so it extends out further of the throttle body.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Next mod: clean that engine bay. Well not a mod but wow it needs a cleaning.

Yeah I know, it's pretty bad. I've owned the car for a year but it hasn't actually been "mine" (my wife's, hence username) for very long. Will definitely get it done soon.

Also, can I get some advice on the best way to go about that? Never really done an engine cleaning before.

It goes a long way, our impala looked the same. Since cleaning it, every time I pop the hood I keep thinking how nice it looks

Purple power, simple green or whatever and just go to town. A large brush with long bristles works good, then hose it off.

I used a degreaser (with a brush on the bad areas), then I full on power washed. Just avoiding direct contact with the alternator, it can get wet though. You'll have to keep your hai dry though.

Really? I can just spray a hose up in there?

Yup. Just use common sense, but you would have to really try to damage anything. If it makes you feel better you can wrap anything you want to avoid with clear wrap or a grocery bag. I'd just spray everything down with a degreaser, let it sit for a minute or two, then scrub it down. Then take a hose and wash it off. Repeat till satisfied. I blow all standing water off with leaf blower then start car, shut hood, go for a drive. 15 minutes later its clean and dry and you can spot clean any areas that look like they need it after it cools.

You might want to plug your IAT sensor back in.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

I know, I will. Once I get the coupler tomorrow I'll make a spot for it. I just have to drive to and from work tomorrow. Only like 10-15 miles.
Plug it in and just let it sit there, idk how well these cars run without the IAT sensor.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Put Audi into Service Position or "Circus mode" as Jason said they called it at the dealership.

Circus mode is how I'll be referring to it going forward. It felt clownish to do this much in order to consider swapping a pulley.

All this

To get the rad support aka lock position carrier to move forward on pins

To get at the pulley in question

Like Smut's this will go faster with each round. Overall not too bad though.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Nothing to the GP other than move it. I charged the battery on the Stealth and got it fired up and moved it to its new spot. I also washed it for the first time in over 4 years. I did a quick degrease on the engine bay in prep for starting to tear it down.
