What did you do to your car today? Vol 2.0

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

im gonna do a oil pan gasket, along with every other last gasket. its easy when its on a stand.........:th_nanana:

This is true lol

I should address mine, it's a slow leak while I have the space to work on it but I know I'm going to regret every second of it so I'll probably say F it for now.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Finally got rid of the bottom rung Autozone brake pads and replaced with some thermal quiets. It was so friggin nice to hit the brakes and not get nerve grinding squeal. Now I'm enjoying the left pedal more than the right. That aught to change soon:) Heads are ported and being dropped off Monday for valve job. Two weeks from now I should be into some boost. Oh happy day :D

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

What year and series.
I was looking at a 08 335xi.....but??? geesh IDK....you ever dig into one Bill?

"Sold the Regal.. and picked up a loaner"

loaner being the key word there.......

Yes, loaner

I know Scotty, but those Mod peeps have a strange way with words at times

Noooo

it means borrowed this time lol

it does look like a damn nice loaner tho.
Bill, no bash cuz I "learned to drive in town" in a 72 2002, soggy cable 4 speed. Borrower beware- If you can't stick a magnet to the front strut towers, don't drive it like a W-body. You don't want to know. You get another truck yet?

My Grand Prixs just perform as expected with no suprises in a long while. Did not lift a finger for them today. Had the loud one out last night and it never ceases to amaze me. Leaks everything except coolant (and... Jimmy cracked corn...) but the tires stay up and the tune never changes. My rides do me proud, I've pretty much forgotten what its like to have to nurse a POS daily. Reckon it helps if you keep expectations low.

Give up the info Matt...

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Cleaned my mass air flow sensor today. Used the hacksaw idea for the screws (thanks Scotty). Didn't do anything lol. Just wanted to clean it.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

A friend of mine has an Audi, I helped him work on it and I will NEVER come anywhere near thinking about buying one. You have to pull the front clip to change the belt. You have to pull the front clip, take the motor mounts off, and jack of the engine to change the alternator (or even do the Big 3). Replacing the window motor was a huge ordeal too. I didn't help with that, but he had to come borrow all kinds of tools for it all day, lol. A rivet gun, a drill bit, zip ties, crow bar, very odd tools for a window motor, lol.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

After helping my cousin work on his Audi I determined you couldn't pay me to own one.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Well, not the motor relay. That was the code I was receiving after I got it communicating again. just another solder joint issue. Now all I need to do is replace the harness which is on its way and ABS all fixed and done.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

my abs failed the self test maybe 3 times since i took the encm out and put it back in, so i did the plugs on off a few times, then greased the plugs, off on a few more times.

also greased the other plugs under the hood to the abs pump.

i dare that light to show is face again...i dare it!

then i did oil changes on 2 lawn mowers that cost more then most of our cars, (one cost 7 grand, the other 5) and then did the work trucks oil and filter.

That's German for you. I remember seeing a tech having to pull the front clip off to change the water pump off of a Volkswagen. I laughed and laughed. Many techs told me if you want to lose flat rate, you go work for Volkswagen lol. Audi is Volksfagen if you didn't know.

It's not so much the amount of work as it is the price of the parts. People say that German is the best but they scored the lowest in RELIABILTY over the past few years.

Ever see what happens to a passat rear ending a Furd E-350 at 25 mph? If you ever do, you'll probably laugh at the amount of damage done to the car vs the van.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Oh Yea, he got the Audi on trade with a bad motor, but came with a good motor. What a *****! Its ridiculous how long Alldata says things will take, but in Audi's case it's right lol.

Re: What did you do to your Car today? Vol 2.0

Might go replace my front splash shields in a few, depending on dog and kid noise outside. Needs a wash but tendonitis is creeping up my arm.

I have little experience on Audis but metric a crap-ton on Benz. VW Beetles too. Once I cut up a new-not-yet-sold GTI so far you could just about walk up to the front seat from behind the car. What I'm trying to say is I've gotten my mind around German engineering and its often more sensible than what we do here. This is laughable maybe but if you want to see evidence of a global automotive community look at a Fusion. That body has distinctly American, Asian, and European ideas in the design... such as doors that can be tore down for paint work without removing the trim panel (asia), and bolt-on front structure ahead of the engine block (EU). It was refreshing to see that manufacturer's at some point began to consider body service in design.

Ruh-roh its a 5 series from around the turn of the century. Hey... CENTURY! Now theres a good lookin Buick.

The "info": A 5'er came in once, hit a curb and didn't drive right. Not so much as a mark on the wheels/tires. Suspension OK. I was the resident damage-finding car-totaller so in I went. Nothing, nothing. Then I saw it and my co-workers thought something had bit me by my reaction, I was shocked. Big crack in the strut tower in the mounting area, but no rust to help me spot it. When I did, the crack was like 2" from my face. Not wide but long. I jumped back and yelped holy chit. Magnet- nope. Aw maaan. Further investigation indicated that if the front structure is off in any direction at any point, more than 1mm, you cut the entire aluminum front structure off at the firewall and replace it using glue and tig. And put it back within 1 mm. BMW cert shops only were authorized to do it at the time and it went away. So my friendly warning is you can total it by bumping a curb not hard enough to mark the tire if it has the alloy front structure.

Try swapping heater or evap cores in an S-class, pays like 24 hrs but the entire interior comes out except for like the back seat. Definitely a design swing-and-miss on that one. Thats not funny but this is- we sent a new S600 to best buy for some aftermarket phone stuff they wanted installed, and they tried to tap 12 volts from a fat orange fiber optic line. Doh! That was a biggie. Bodywork is actually usually really easy on German cars once you are aware how its made and assembled. Mechanical work, maybe not so easy.
