Weird supercharger event

Gonna keep this short and sweet, I bought this 97 GTP about two weeks ago and something weird happened today.

Ok, my usual acceleration from a red light is about 2500-3000 rpm before the trans shifts, just enough to hear the supercharger whine faintly.

I put a cone filter on a few days ago to try to get more whine out if it and it really didn't help a WHOLE lot, but there is definitely more of a sucking sound while driving, no increase in audible whine

So today driving home from work I decided to get on it a bit, 3/4 pedal 5000rpm pull, shifted nicely then I let off

But right after that its like the supercharger came to life. I started to hear a much louder whine coming from it, while driving normally the whine was about twice as loud as it was before (this sound is what I expected it would sound like after the cone filter install)

I stopped to get some gas, turned off the car, filled up an started it. The loud whine was gone and everything was back to normal

Is there some kind of factory boost controller installed in these cars? After I introduced that 5000rpm pull and continued normal driving, it would start to whine loud at 2000rpm, but when I turned off the car and turned it back on when I got gas, it disappeared like something got reset. Confused.

bumper side of the blower is a boost solenoid, its got a lever off the sid eof it. rev the engine see if it moves. if its not moving you have a vac leak to it, ot its just not working right.

you can move this lever by hand with easy so if its sticky feeling that may be the issue also.

Awesome, I will take a look at that thanks

we refer to them as lego blocks in the gtp lol

the regal's got a digital read out. that i never look at. it was cool for a week maybe lol

Yeah I would look at the valve, it might have got stuck all the way open on one of your WOT pulls, then when you shut off the car it got unstuck and went back to normal.

I checked the boost solenoid last night and it was working just fine, but it's probably starting to go since it most likely got stuck yesterday, can any damage be done if it gets stuck open?

While it was stuck open it wasn't registering any extra boost, I think that gauge is just linked to the pedal and measures how far your into it other than measuring actual psi

your boost is read off the map sensor, not the gas pedal. its the true psi.
