Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"

Shoulder impingement?

Ya my r/c is ****ed. I messed it up the final straw when I was 22 I think, couldnt move my left arm more than a couple inches out for weeks. Opted out of the steroid shot and lost 30lbs waiting for it to "heal". I cant even do 5lb side raises it feels like acid in my shoulder.

Bill I do it for me and i LOVE it. It does help letting me throw a couch in a back of the box truck. Cons are friends always try to ask for help when moving. SOrry I am "busy" :) Stronger bones and being above the general population is a big plus too.

Ever try rehab stuff?
When I dislocated my shoulders, turkish getups and strict overhead pressing sped up my recovery, with the addition of learning to sleep on my back with my arms by my sides. Sleeping pretty much any other way tears my shoulders to pieces.

I just deadlifted for 60 minutes. That's a new one for me.

225x5,5
275x5,5
315x3,3
365x3,3
405x2,2,2
455x1,1,1,1,1
405x2,2,2,2
315x5,5,5,5,5
225x8,10,12,12,12,11,12

If I counted right, that's 153 deadlifts.

Like most Valentine's Day hookups, I may regret it in the morning.

I rehab myself haha. I dont treat the r/c as I should. I do cuban rotations with a dumbell or weight to warm the shoulders up. I really should concentrate 30min twice a week and do cubans, internal and external rotations. My internals rotations are like 65% stronger than my external rotations, thats pathetic if you ask me. One day... one day

Good to hear you work at it. Everything I'm reading from strongmen and powerlifters is that they're all spending more and more time warming up their problem joints and it's a huge help.

That is very interesting. I had never heard of that before. Doesn't look like there's much finished research on it out there, but that's true of dozens of drugs and supplements that work. Logs look promising, though. I'd be very interested in your results if/when you try it.

Thanks on the replies, I was asking that seriously,...not actually being funny or sarcastic (for once).

I know a lot of guys that hit the gym and talk about reps and weights etc as you guys have been. They can't do cardio to save their lives most of the time. At most it's warm up. So when I have to move some arcade games or a pool table and have these guys help me, they typically have trouble putting it to practical use. Meanwhile I'm over there moving the 400lb game myself. Ask those that have met me, I'm average sized, average build, definately don't look like I'd be tossing anything that size into a truck by myself. Then to have a gym rat turn around and tell me they can't lift/move something....it makes me wonder at times.

For me the elliptical and adaptive motion trainer are a good dose of cardio/exercise that my desk jockey body can't get otherwise. I'm 41 and have hit that part of life where if I want to keep the stomach reasonable and not be horribly out of shape, it's hitting the gym. Sure I'm out in the garage a decent amount, that's just keeping moving though.

I know some thing the elliptical is cake and to me at about 9-11 resistance with 170-180 strides per minute...it is pretty easy. The AMT though....thats another monster. Different work, much more resistance and slow pace based. Look at Ryan, he's rollerblading, riding a bike, losing half his body weight etc. He's in great shape now and said he "did 10 minutes" on the AMT the other day. Tonight I'm starting Insanity.

Ah, I definitely was not taking you seriously and giving you crap right back... undeserved, apparently.
I'm a Function>Form guy. The movements I do dictate how I look; I don't decide how I want to look and lift toward it.
I can jump higher than you average bear... move faster (for a reasonable distance), lift heavier things more times, throw them over dumpster walls, etc. I don't break a sweat moving my friends couches... they've all got to sit and rest after moving every third box.
Looks are... always slowly improving. Strength training for fatloss requires a lot of tweaking, it's been going better than it used to. Always learning.

Actually I saw a bit of seriousness and some humor in what you had written. I smiled.

That's the funny part, I've always been ahead of the curve without trying.

And as for cardio for me, I run at the end of every single lift for 21 minutes at a pace of 6.5mph with the incline on the treadmill at 6.0

Do i like cardio? Absolutely not. I hate it but i do it everyday. Its a must in my eyes.

And as for eating too, i eat clean. If I want a snack, i grab a bag of carrots to munch on. Breakfast, i eat 2 eggs over-easy with toast every morning.

Dan.. I couldn't run on a treadmill or the road unless being chased by a seriously ugly woman. Try the Precor 100i. It's that innocent looking thing that few use. If you like that speed and incline, you'll love the 100i

As far as steps are concerned, I get my sweat on doing step-ups on a 2ft box/wall/whatever holding 25lb plates in each hand.

Double-unders make for awesome cardio, cheap, travels well. Never had sore shoulders from running (just ruined knees and hips), but double-unders really smoke me.

Joined the YMCA Friday. 21bux for people in their 20's. I got 1 more year in my 20's I might as well take advantage of it.

Meeting with a Trainer on Friday @ 14:45 for a fitness assessment and to sign up for the workout kiosk program that helps you track your workouts and what not.

Got down to 214.8 before I ate Chinese food yesterday. Ordered some BCAA powder today to try out off Amazon.

Thinking about trying out a beginner spin class on Wed. morning.

I wouldn't go half my body weight but I get what you are saying. I'm trying Bill that's for sure. I've gotten back on the diet horse! I'm riding her bareback! Been under my calories pretty good lately except yesterday. Got down to 214.8 last week. 217 today due to eating Korean yesterday. Bloat city!

I love that Precore 100i but that machine is a mean b1tch! Gonna hit it in the morning most likely. YMCA doesn't open on Sundays until 1pm. I have to work 12 - 22:30 Sun-Wed.
