Water in floorboard (Take 2) - The Permanent Fix



so yesterday( in H E L L like humdity and temp) i attempted to install this deflector... 2 problems, i have the single one piece cowl and cant ge the wiper arm off but was able to bend it up around the hood(hood was open)
part installed very EZ... now i cant get the lil L shaped plastic off the cowl.. tried for an hour with razor bladeknife to cut it off but it didnt seem to "dig" into much..... this plastic is F'n HARD!!! lol

only other thing i can think is buy or see if a buddy has dremel....???

any other ideas guys?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
 
just keep scoring it with an exacto knife or razor blade, and eventually you should be able to cut it enough that it will snap off ..
I had to score mine quite a few times. it took me a while to , but eventually I had made enough of a groove , do this on both sides where you want to cut it.
 
Well thought I had it fixed , buy using glue to attach the rubber seal. Well it leaked yesterday when we had 6" of rain, not bad but the carpet was wet. Gonna go to the dealer to see if I can get the shield/guard what ever it's called.

score like hell and use some big azz wire cutters or dremel

I used a tin snips...
 
The next time I do one, I plan to use a hack saw and cut some small slices. Pinch slices with a vise-grips and carefully break them off by twisting back and forth.
 
Thanks for all this great info !! I posted it up on our local board and have had a ton of hits and comments over there too. Solved the problem on my 04' GT in about 10 minutes.

There are other reasons for water in the passenger floor board. One reason being hvac evap boot drain getting clogged. Mine was fine and I bought the deflector car still leaked. Then I took off the boot, and stuck my finger in the pipe where it drain out and it was clogged so problem fixed just letting you know if you didn't already address that.

I have a '98 GT and I'm planning to buy one of the replacement deflectors, but I'm worried about the water that is already stuck somewhere in the car.

I believe that I successfully removed the rubber elbow or AC drain boot which I found protruding from the firewall about 1 foot below the alternator and hidden behind some other hoses.

The boot was not clogged and the pipe it was connected was not clogged either. I had also previously taken the AC blower motor completely out so I know that the blower area is completely dry, but I can still hear large quantities of water sloshing around when I turn.

Does anyone have any idea where that water could have ended up?

I've read some other postings in other web forums which implied the there might be another drain point, perhaps a green plastic or rubber elbow somewhere lower in the car, but I have not been able to find it.
 
My wife has a 2004 Grand Prix and we woke up this morning after a rain with water in the floor board. Does this part work on a 2004? If not, what part number should I order to fix the leak? NEVERMIND I FOUND THE ANSWER

I have a 2001 GTP and read the deflector instuctions here awhile back when I had to replace the blower resistor due to a couple drops of water shorting out the low speed on the fan. I've never had a flooded right side floor, but don't want to wait 'til I do.

Here's the problem. I searched out an internet source for part #15794785 and ordered it from NewGMparts.com in MA. I guess there was a blank on the order form where they asked the year and of course I put 2001. Hell they ended up changing the part number to 10388810 and sent me the rubber channel seal that's already on the car. Now I have to deal with returning a $5 part....marvelous. Does anyone have a good source in the middle of the country to get one from, or should I just go to a dealer and tell them just to sell me the part # I want and not to worry what its going on?

Is 15794785 a part from a different year that you guys have discovered fits on the '01 (with the trimming of the top cowl)?

I just had this problem on an 04 Grand Prix and it landed up being just the blower motor, resistor was fine.

I really wish I researched the fix a couple years ago when my parents had the problem the first time. I just put the rubber strip back on thinking a lube shop had knocked it off putting in the cabin filter.

I called the dealership parts department and gave them the part # from the TSB from Feb05, and they said the part # changed to:
plenum water deflector (Part# 15794785)
So it is in the system even if you give them the old TSB part #.

That is the correct part #. Why they even have the old part # for the rubber strip is beyond me.

the 2004 part does not fit in 2003 and older cars

when I was ordering the new plastic deflector for my 01 GP the dealer kept saying they did not think it was the right part for my 01

but with the wonderfully illustrated instructions you can make it work
my floors have been dry ever since.

Does anyone have any suggestions if I have a leak on both the passenger and driver side? I'm going to buy this part for the passenger side. But what should I do about the driver side?
 
Oh yeah....the people that sold me the wrong part and won't take it back was NewGMparts.com Don't buy anything from them.....their lack of expetise and bad customer service sucks major pond scum.

I'll go buy the damn part from a f*&^%$* dealer like I should have to begin with.
