Wanting to buy a gtp need some help

Hello,

I've never owned a GTP and I'm looking to replace my GT with something a little more reliable with a little more power and a few more bells and whistles. There is a GTP for sale near me that I, hopefully, will be looking at tonight. Its a 2002 with 140k. It has a sunroof, leather, heated driver seat, but there are also a couple of other things. They say it has a loud muffler and that the rear bumper was replaced with a red bumper but its spray painted white (which I'm not concerned about that, just concerned about why it was replaced, and some small rust spots. they are ASKING 2800obo, which I'm -not- going to pay for it, especially with the rust, muffler and bumper issues, but was wondering what a good max value would be to pay for it. I was thinking 1900-2100. Also, I have no idea what to look for or what to listen to while test driving it and looking it over, and was wondering if I could get some suggestions and some advice. I don't want to get screwed over like I was on the gt I'm driving now!

*edit*
I guess the bumper was the front bumper not the rear. which I'm less concerned about because mine is broken and it wasn't from anything major, just wore out!

id only pay 2k max.

pop the hood and look around the lim for coolant/dirty water.

check vacuum lines..

youre going to want to go full throttle and try and hit full boost.
if it doesn't hit full boost then it probably has a vacuum leak somewhere.

make sure tranny shifts smooth and the fluid is red.

Do these cars have the same intake gasket issues as the GT's do? Also, some other issues I've had with my 97 gt is the strut towers, the ball joints, abs sensors/wheel bearings, outer tierod ends, and one CV joint blew. Would all these parts be the same? Also what about the moon roof? I've read some people have issues with the drain tubes getting clogged and rusting out, and also that they can get leaky. Is this easy to diagnose/fix?

Also, I'd PREFER a coup, this one is a sedan and would PREFER a car with ~100-120k miles, so if anyone is in Michigan and knows of a car for sale or can help me get a deal through a dealer, let me know!

Both the lim and uim gaskets were shot in my gt. the lower was shot before I got it (bought @ 113k) and the upper was replaced with a non-updated one before I got it. I replaced both with updated gaskets, found they "fixed" the lower by putting tons of silicone ALL over it (was a pain to scrape off/clean). Whats the best way to tell if the LIM gasket was replaced when I look at this car without actually opening everything up?

the gt's should have the same lim issue as the gtps. the best way to tell if it has the gasket is to look at where the lim meets the heads. you'll be looking for a silver/shiny looking gasket. you may have to take the engine cover off.

and i personally would only buy an 02 if it had the 100-120 range. i'm big on only buying within average mileage range.
