I've decided to stay with Dex III in my 01 GT, I'm replacing the filter and adding the TransGo shift kit this weekend. So I was in Wally mart and picked up 2 gallons of SuperTech Multi-Vehicle ATF, the jug says it "Meets the performance requirements of Dexron, Dexron II, DexronII-E, Dexron III, Mercon, and Mercon V."

In addition:

Super Tech Multi-Vehicle Automatic Transmission Fluid provides excellent protection against wear and shudder resistance.

Anybody use this stuff? Good, bad or indifferent?
 


SuperCrap.

I only use SuperTech anything when I'm running it for a few minutes just to drain out later.
 
Go to their website and check the MSDS to see who manufacturers it.

Then decide if you want a cheap mix of their product.
 


Wouldn't use it personally. I would either use Ac delco or you could find Castros Dexron III for a decent price I think around $35-40 on amazon and use prime shipping if you have a account.

If it meets the spec, what makes it inferior?

Here's what Valvoline says about their MaxLife:

Recommended for use where DEXRON, DEXRON II, III and VI, Toyota T-IV and WS, MERCON®, MERCON® SP and LV, Allison TES 389, Nissan Matic-D, Matic-J and Matic-K, Honda Z-1 (except CVT), Mercedes NAG-1, Mitsubishi Diamond SP-II and SP-III and many others are required.

Is it possible that one fluid can meet all of those specs? I know very little about this and am trying to understand better.

The last time I looked into it, Walmart basically went with the lowest bidder for that product, I just don't remember off the top of my head who it was. I think the MSDS should reveal that.

I'd much rather spend a couple dollars more for a quality product in the weak link of the drivetrain.
 
I've used it numerous times with no problems. It works fine. Add a bottle of lucas while you're doing it.
 


my 97 deville and my 99 PAU both lived exclusively on Super Tech synthetic oil and trans mission fluid their entire life until the 4T80-E in the deville went Dex VI. I put about 80k HARD miles on that cadillac and it never once gave an issue til the headgaskets went (as happens in ALL northstars) and the body on the PAU rotted out before i had a chance to beat that into the ground...

if it meets the standard...it's good to go. some are better than others but if it says DexIII it's good enough for GM so it's good enough for me.
 
walmarts fluid is the same as travelers brand, sold by tractor supply. they are both made by Warren performance products, the bottom of the jug should have a WPP in the mold of the jug/quart.

im using travelers brand currently in my used tranny. been a year now, and the fluid is still as red as the day it went in. tranny is just fine too. knock on wood.

at the end of the day, look it up, its good fluid.

Its not that WalMart goes with the lowest bidder, WalMart can purchase so much stuff and have it made private label so they get it cheaper. It could have easily been Havoline, or Valvoline in a different bottle and you guys would call it crap just because it is the WalMart brand.

For the longest time Advance Auto's brand of oil was Havoline, but some people would not use it because it was not "name-brand."
 


As noted, Walmart can purchase it far cheaper than anyone else and sell it for less as a private label. If it is Dex III/IV, whatever, it meets GM's standard. You are good to go. Probably more important to the tranny life is not the fluid brand but changing it often (every 25-30 K miles with a new filter) and keeping it cool (run a tranny cooler). The 4T65E will last a long time doing those 2 procedures.
 
The SuperTech trans fluid added 20HP and 25 lt-lbs of torque output, and it looks like fuel mileage is up about 5 mpg.
 
Just kidding! Would be nice though, wouldn't it? I went ahead and used the WM stuff, will report on how it lasts. Trans does run good though, of course some of that is the shift kit and Lucas.
