Wal*Mart Super Tech Transmission Fluid

There are some idiots in this thread.

Any trans fluid you can buy will be fine. That is true for engine oil, coolant, PS fluid, etc. as well.

For an old GM that doesn't give a ****, sure.

Other vehicles will have serious issues if the incorrect fluid is put in.

I have a few vehicles like that. As for running anything... really? My older GM trucks will run anything, even ****ty gas. I know the 3800's are unstoppable, but I have several vehicles that are very specific as to what engine oil needs to be run. I guess that is why I don't screw around with Walmart-brand ****.

For instance?

My TBSS with a built LS2 requires thicker weight dino oil (10w30). I can't just throw in any junkyard low-end oil. I have about $5k into a motor that is known for oil flow design issues. The builder told me to stay with name-brand dino oil only, because they built it and that is what they run/recommend. You may think they're wrong/etc. Look them up - Jensen Engine Technologies.

As for price, I don't doubt that. I still will not personally buy cheap just to save a dollar. Having a quality brand oil that is clean when it goes in and clean when it comes out lets me sleep at night. When your 20k SUV eats a bearing at 78k due to oiling issues, you tend to think differently. ...needed more mods anyway

You wanted an example, I gave you one :th_winking:

edit- I should also mention that GM recommends 5w30 Mobil 1 Synthetic in that motor. I ran AMS, Mobil 1, and Castrol, all 5w30.

The urethra-sized oil passage design is the reason. Google it, it's a well-known issue in the TBSS world, particularly in the AWD trucks. I could have ran Super**** and it would have eaten a bearing. My point is that the motor is now built with some expensive forged parts and I was instructed to use specific oil.

But regardless, this IS a transmission fluid thread and I apologize for derailing.

Don't listen to these guys.
I used SuperTech in my junkyard trans, and it holds my 400bhp just fine.
Do NOT use Lucas additive. Just use the Dex III spec fluid.
