Underhood/Intake Temps

Yea don't spend what 10 bucks for piping to a location where your filter can actually pick up some ambient air.

I should have made the title of this thread Underhood/Intake/Post Supercharger Temps. Yes I know how to create an intake to get more ambient air and am currently working on that.

I've got a 2010 Camaro and I actually like driving the GP more since I'm so fascinated with any forced induction, turbo or supercharged. This is my first forced induction car and I love it.

Let me change up my initial question from my first post.
Has anyone recorded POST supercharger air temps from:
1. Any type of intercooler
2. Ram air hood with heat extractors
3. Full length headers (reducing boost psi due to better flow)
4. Different pulley sizes
5. E85 or meth injection
6. Any combination of the above

Thanks

that comment wasn't directed at you, just so you know

Hell no, you would have better luck on the SCCOA website. They have tons of tech and they also have the IAT mounted after the intercooler at the adapter elbow where it enters the LIM. Look for XR7Dave or Randy Connie or Duffy if they are still there. That board only goes back to about 02'.

a thought occurred to me this morning and if you have a thermocouple you could put a 3 way T at at the reference point for the MAP and boost dump solenoid (if you have one). I would do it but until I can actually get my car into boost it'll have to wait. I probably have a bad knock sensor so when I get time I'll fix that. I do have a 2 channel thermocouple thermometer that reads and records min/max and shows differential as well.

So here is what I plan on doing, I found this on the Aeroforce website and am planning on installing it soon. Screws into the intake mani like on the pics I posted above. Hooks right up to my aeroforce interceptor gauge and I can program it to read as "Boost Temp". Runs from -40 F to 275 F. After that I plan on recording different data on "boost temp", boost psi, knock retard, ambient air, and underhood temp (which I will use as the MAF reading on my Aero) while I'm all stock. Then try a few different experiments with air intakes and put in a 180 degree thermo (record data). Then I'm gonna get the front and rear power logs from ZZP (record data). Then the sseilmnop intercooler (record data). After that will be my baseline for trying 3.6-3.4 pulleys and making sure I'm pretty safe.

Oh and I found there is a shop with a dyno close to me so I'm going to try and get a stock one then one after I do all the mods in the above post.

I'm curious as to the results if any.

Just one thing, that zzp rear manifold isnt really needed as much as the 3in downpipe is needed. Mostly only turbo guys feel the need to use the rear log. Factory ones do seem to treat guys well when just running a 3in downpipe, the factory already has decent flow with the runners/log style design.

Hmm, I might need to rethink my plans maybe. I think the downpipe would be a good idea too, but if I got one I would get the 3" that would have to hook up to my stock 2.5" exhaust. I don't want to shell out the $600 or so for a full 3" exhaust.

Need the expert's opinions here: What's better
Rear power log from ZZP $200 into a full stock DP and stock exhaust
OR
Stock rear manifold with a ZZP 3" ( With cat) DP $225 necked down to 2.5" to fit my stock exhaust.
Please don't say both because I totally would if I could.

dont bother with either of those options. get the speed daddy headers on ebay. if you plan on doing an intercooler, the headers will work a lot better. and they run about 225.

here is some more information for you to consider:

scroll down to post 554 to see some actual temperature numbers of pre and post intercooler.

One night I read through that whole thread haha. Those photos are kind of dark, but I think the first is on top of the supercharger @ 83 degrees and the second is on what he said was the water neck @179 degrees?
When I first saw that I thought of "water neck" as the thermostat housing neck, but could he have meant the intercooler hot water outlet hose/neck?

thats the guy who makes and sells ic's. hes showing how cool the blower is vs the t stat housing, aka coolant engine to the cars radiator.

I'd do the dp before the rear plog. I didn't even know there was a rear plog, but the dp is def. more restrictive than a stock rear mani.

the higher temperature is going to be the supercharger. I'm pretty sure the coolant neck is the outlet of the heated coolant.

there is a lot of good information spread through out that thread, but the pictures are a bit hard to decipher.

The coolant neck is the upper radiator hose temperature(engine). I used the neck because it is aluminum just like the supercharger and will give consistent numbers to compare.

It was 195(engine). The supercharger was 80ish. It was 30 degrees outside.

Do the speed daddy headers have a place for the O2 sensor and not throw codes?

I just ordered the post S/C manifold air intake temp sensor from Aeroforce so hopefully it gets here this week. Give me maybe a week or so to install it and get some data, then I'll place my order for whatever exhaust parts I decide on. Tough decisions ahead.

1. (All ZZP) Front plog $140 + Rear plog $200 + 3" DP/w cat $225 = $565

2. (ZZP) Stainless Headers with DP and cat =$810

Marshall recommended the SD headers
3. SD headers =$225 (but do any downpipes bolt up to it?? and does it throws codes?)

The SD headers include a downpipe. I'd definitely go that route. Tons of info around on them and many folks running them.
