Turns Over But wont Start

Turned the car on to warm it up, 10 min later, jumped in, put it in drive and it stalled. Tried starting it again and it turns over but when you give it gas it does nothing but stalls, I dont even feel any pressure when it hit the gas pedal. Waited all night came out in the morning to try and restart it, did the exact same thing, started for a few seconds then stalled, now it just turns over. I have a half a tank of gas and dont smell any fuel, but I did smell exhaust last night. I am stranded!!!

Have you done any work to it recently? How many miles are on the car?

Stab in the dark: It's starving for air. Open the airbox, check for a rat's nest. Make sure the throttlebody is not obstructed. Make sure there's nothing touching the wires inside the MAF sensor tube (the cylinder attached to the air box after the corrugated rubber tube on the throttlebody). Once saw the same thing from a feather stuck to the MAF sensor.

could be the pump is priming, but not working after that. if it starts and stalls out. sputtering to a stall.

id check the what the fuel pressure is at the rail.

This car has been a nightmare since I got it, it recently overheated and the coolant arm (?) was replaced, I dont know much about cars, I just google the symptoms and go from there and everything has come back to a fuel system problem. I do know that sometimes when I go to start it it has stalled right after I turned the key, but this time it refuses to start, just turning over. I will figure out where everything is and attempt at fixing this, thank you!

178,000 miles without a fuel filter change might kill you. You may not be getting any fuel pressure. Unfortunately, none of the parts stores carry the 2004-2005 filter - you'll have to get one from a dealership. $15 part every 30,000 miles.

most likely the fuel pump took a dump on ya, if you are up to it, you can just change the pump from inside the sender. its when you buy a whole new pump assembly they cost 200 and up. just the pump, 30 to 50.

i honestly thought i did, but now im not hearing anything but I do smell gas when I turn it over, Im leaning towards a faulty fuel pump. And I know it isnt a cheap fix, plus a tow...Shoot me! Thanks for the help!

you can change a fuel pump in 30 minutes on the side of the road if need be. very few tools are needed, and you get to it from inside the trunk.
