TS L36 vs L67.

Okay guys, I want to get a clear answer and my curiosity keeps bugging me, I know I can't start the car with it, but my curiosity wants me to know.

So my top swapped L36 gave me a nice spun rod bearing case, so I've bought a L67 instead to put it in, the motor's all cleaned and gasket changed and s/c changed and stuff, good overhaul. It's gonna be put in Monday and such.

What I have left in my part stock is a stock L36 pcm, and a Overkill L36 PCM tuned for GTP injectors, 180* t-stat, and all the jazz that goes with a top swap, so 3.29 gears.
Now what makes it different than the GTP pcm? Timing advance? Compression difference leads to different tables I suppose?

Could I get someone to change a few variables to make it work?

(Will was supposed to ship me a re-tuned pcm for this, but I'm waiting for it since ever, now I would like to at least test fire up the engine so.)
 


N/A PCM's are pretty different.

You can't run a boosted motor on one, or expect an explosion.

Timing is one, lots of things, including the whole "reading boost" part is very important.

So...just wait.
 
I don't think the l36 PCM can read boost, that's your biggest problem. You can drive the car around on that L36 pcm tuned for L67 injectors, but don't go into boost. The timing should also be tweaked most likely. But it really should run with the L36 PCM.
 
I have started a boosted motor on an NA tune. Literally a complete NA tune. You can start it. I wouldn't let it run long or touch the throttle . You can start it to see if it runs though.
 
I meant that the pcm in the car right now was the one I used to run boost with, it ran for a top swapped l36 with that ported blower I'm reusing on my l67 engine. It's tuned for boost, 2 bar map, gtp injectors.
 
Like I said in chat when you asked...a top swapped tune is still different by quite a bit vs. a L67 PCM.

But if not, someone could correct me there.
 


The pcm can have a gt or gtp bin on it.

Easiest way to tell is look at your dic and see if the lego block boost guage works.

Likely will used an l67 bin, thus l67 map sensor cal and gt/l36 trans settings.

You can boost all you want with an l36 pcm or bin a long as the fueling and spark has been modified for it.

The map sensor needs to match the settings on th pcm but dont think you cant run boost with an l36 map. You can, but youll want something to log boost with. You can change th map cal to use the 2 bar or even three bar map but know our pcm sucks for speed density.

In your case the overkill top swap pcm should work fine.

Granted your top swap used the l67 map as well.
 
Alright so in short, my PCM was for boost on the l36 block. It has been modified to run on boost, the boost bricks showed up in the DIC and worked. On my Torque APP, on WOT I'd get around 4-6psi of boost with the 3.8 pulley. And the pcm is tuned for a two bar MAP.

I read what blue says. Anyone can check that up? See what the major difference is between the two tunes, if the only difference is the compression of the block, really.

So it would be safe to start it? Maybe test drive? (That is once the engine is in, I work away in the forest, so I only go around do a little stuff on the weekends with my mech.)

I was stressing the hell out not having my tune and my mech didn't like not being able to start it up after the engine is in, but now that I know it's safe to start/drive. Will tell him he can now.
 


As long as Will used Tiny Tuner to change the settings for the MAP sensor, you should be good. Map lookup---N/A vs Supercharged= 1 bar vs 2 bar. The trans should already be set.

I would have done headers too, but you can understand that having a motor blow up on moments where money is short, doesn't allow for much more when you need to get the car running asap.
