Transmission slippage

I have a 2006 grand prix (base v6) with 130,000 miles. Every so often, the transmission will slip when I come from a start or even sometimes between 2nd and 3rd gear. I keep the fluid clean. Is this a common problem with this particular vehicle? What could be the problem?

what do you mean you keep the fluid clean? Do you mean you change it? Cuz if not do a pan drop and filter change.

I am sorry to hear about your problem with your Grand Prix. Is this a recent problem? How long has this been occurring? Have you taken the vehicle to your dealer for an inspection? Any additional information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Louis. The transmission has always been rather sluggish and shifted funny since I bought it with 29,000 miles. I had it inspected under the new car warranty, but the dealer said it was fine. It's been slipping for about the last 1,000 miles, (about a month a go). It started slipping between 2nd and 3rd gear. now, it seems to be more from 1st gear as if the car is not downshifting when coming to a stop.
I haven't taken it back to the dealer due to the fact that I don't want to pay for a diagnosis that may not reveal any problems.

Please advise
Thanks!
Sean

TRUL8KR,
I have researched your vehicle and have not been able to find any known issues with the transmissions on 2006 Grand Prix's. It is difficult to determine the exact cause of the problem over the internet. I would suggest you visit your local dealer for an inspection. They should be able to pinpoint the problem with better accuracy.

Don't go to a dealer unless you like wasting money. Do a pan drop and filter change and see if it clears up your problem.
