Transmission Match Ups

Hi everyone, I own a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix SE and I want to swap out the 3.1L LG6 V6 (mine says 3100 SFI V6. Not sure if they're the same engine or not) with a 3.8L 3800 Series 2. I want to know If I should get the 3.8L S/C because I plan on putting a turbocharger in it or if I should just get the 3.8L with no S/C? My main goal is to up the engine to a 3.8L because many of my friends say the 3.1L wouldn't be able to handle a turbo (they mostly deal with Civics) and I want to up my 4-speed auto to a 5 or 6 speed auto but I can't find out what 5 or 6 speed automatic transmissions match up with the 3.8L engines. Which leads to my main question, what type of 5 or 6 speed trannys can I use with the 3.8 that won't potentially get ruined and cost me in end? (If I can even up my tranny to a 5 or 6 speed.) Please let me know my fellow Pontiac drivers and mechanics.

P.S. I know very little about cars and I'm learning on the way.

You cant use a 5-6 speed trans as they make anything that can even be controlled via our PCM.

You best bet is to find a GT or GTP motor with trans, the wire harness, PCM and everything else needed to make the swap and then it might work.

Ok thanks. Also would you know why my 02 GP overheats while idle? I flushed my radiator, put new tubes, both fans are on while parked and I still can't figure it out. It also says low coolant buti put new coolant in. could it be because my ac doesn't kick on? I forgot what the part was called.

I also think I need a new radiator because when I take the cap off I have built up rust and it's still happening after a radiator flush. Plus my abs light stays on constantly even after I put my new hubs on.

Your lower intake manifolds gasket its probably leaking. Have your abs code scanned could be abs module bad.
