tranny cooler recommendations



I have the cheapest one autozone had in stock on my car and the absolute hottest it's ever been is 200* on the hottest day with me beating on it a lot.
 
Someone please tell me how to search these forums (aside from google). I knew how to on the old style, but I don't find a link with this setup.

My goals: keep the tranny fluid cool in an effort to promote long life (I don't care about performance, I prefer reliability)

Limitations: I am not made of money

The stock cooler has 150k miles on it - TEP specifically recommended either a new radiator or a/m cooler (for use with my 'new' trans). It sounds to me like pretty much whatever will suffice.

I'm just going to see about finding a cheapie aftermarket unit (ala the Hayden I linked). I don't want to bother with a new radiator as mine works fine and I don't want to mess with bleeding etc (not to mention the A/M cooler is way cheaper).
 
Dave also sells the trans coolers and could tell you what size you need. I have one of Dave's installed, it is a 20,000 btu cooler. It is installed as a stand alone cooler, bypassing the stock radiator cooler. We just went through 100+ temps for the last two weeks, highest temp I saw was 179, through in-town driving.
 
My rad is fine - the AC condensor looks like crap though (ironic considering the A/C is the BEST AC I've ever had in any car, still frigid).

I know Dave will install them - he has a Hayden on his site. As much as I want to throw business his way, I can get a similar Hayden unit for 1/2 the price on RockAuto.

I don't have a temp sensor on my tranny (unless you guys are reading it thru OBD2 which I could I suppose). I have no idea how hot it was getting. My speculation was VERY VERY hot as touching the outside of the case was intolerably hot - just brushing it would hurt my fingers.
 


I had no idea - I have an OBD2 scanner, I can get coolant temp etc, I never paid attention to trans temp.

I currently havew the engine hoisted and axles pulled - the car is in my dad's barn (my wife would not take kindly to it taking u p the garage for a month or so). I will be over there this morning and see if I can get the trans temp pulled.
