• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Top Swap and Headers

I know that headers are recommended with a top swap, But are they absolutely a must have? Or can I get away with U-Bend delete, cooler plugs and possibly 180 degree t-stat. I will be running a 3.8 pully with open cone intake.

The swap will be on a 97 GT. I was reading the topswap thread and it didn't say anything about a PCM. But just to make sure, do I have to get one from a 97 GTP (or anyother PCM for that matter)?

You'll want to run headers regardless. Not sure about the pcm but I think you can just get yours tuned.

dont top swap cars make more power than a smaller pullied regular gtp?? if thats true then to be on the safe side i would just get headers.

Have fun with the 4t60 tranny. Its not the same transmission as the GTP's as they got the 4t65 that year and I am pretty sure that a 97 GTP pcm will not work.

we have been through this multiple times. I'm swapping at the expense of my transmission.....and my life lol. First thing im going to do is drive like an idiot and be sure the trans blows....no i can't do that lol. I have to drive like a grandma for a few months. I'll have to avoid hard shifts (like WOT) and be easy on launches for a few months.

I thought a topswapped car was like running on a 3.6 pully? And I thought headers weren't needed until the 3.4 pully range. idk

It would be a good idea since they are $200 dollars. Could you run just a u-bend delete? maybe, but only if you had a tuner. And no you can not just throw a 97 GTP PCM in there. If you are going to do this, do it right. And dont count on there not being any problems.

And on another note, some headers claim to have fitment issues with the 4t60 trans. ZZP's says so on their site.

oh....I see what you guys are seeing lol. I never ment just throw a 97 PCM in there and call it good. I just didn't know if a PCM from a GT could be tuned. I have to set up a date to get a tune.

Headers are not a problem. If someone had a set laying around, I could make my own and possibly make a jig...that would be sweet.
