TLSheff - Silver Sled

Re: TLSheff - Silver Clunker Needs Help

No, I couldn't because didn't have the right bit. So it probably did get some tb cleaner on it. But its acting fine now that I cleaned maf with right cleaner. No lights and car hasn't surged Rpms lately and seems to be running smooth. As far as i know, its got 123k miles on it.

Reason I'm asking:

I rebuilt this motor and now has 10K on it.
The TB/MAF (embarrassed to say) as far as I know has never been cleaned in 205K.
Imagine that - rebuilt entire motor and left the TB looking like pewp.
TB is black as coal and I'm sure the MAF isn't much better.
I was wondering if anyone had cleaned the MAF without removing it.
Probably play it safe and bite the bullet on the Torx bits and just remove it.
I'll bet Harbor Freight or Mcmaster Carr will have the special bit set.

Re: TLSheff - Silver Clunker Needs Help

You might be able to score these at your local hardware store but.....

McMaster Carr

7377A55 $20.48

10-Piece Power-Bit Set—Includes one each of T7, T8, T9, T10, T15, T20, T25, T27, T30, and T40 bits with 1/4" hex shank. Bits are 2" long. Packed in a plastic bit holder. Set
7233A85 $34.22

A lot cheaper than I thought

I picked up a set for $10 at napa and took it off and sprayed the crap out of it last Thursday. So far so good. Mine with 123k was nasty. Maybe ill do it more often now.

Re: TLSheff - Silver Clunker Needs Help

Suggested maintenance interval is every oil change. Seems a bit much though.

Re: TLSheff - Silver Clunker Needs Help

LOL you're suppose to change your oil?

j/k j/k I can see every other depending on your environment and choice in filter. If you live in a dusty climate like we do in the south and prefer a K&N oiled filter, you may want to every oil change lol. Just spray and let dry, never touch it, so spraying it clean often wouldn't hurt it any.

I'm sure I need to do this, I cleared the code and it didn't come on when I went to lunch, but will most likely be back on in the future

Re: TLSheff - Silver Clunker Needs Help

So tore the TB off the car, replaced the gasket, cleaned the TB (wasn't as bad as I figured it would be), cleaned the MAF sensor... but no help. Light went off for a little while, but came back on. Think its about time to replace the sensor.

I did however finally get my mothers old house cleaned up and her fully moved and last thing loaded was my old 83k L67. Spun bearing from a couple years back, just been sitting at her house, now moved to my garage and on a stand ready for the tear down. With any luck a rebuildable block and will get a cam and a bunch of other goodies so I just drop the motor in, tune and go.

The LM7 5.3L is for a buddy, so no go in my GTP... but the possibilites would be fun haha.

Re: TLSheff - Silver Clunker Needs Help

I joke all the time that if he doesn't get started on it I'll throw it in my car, he just goes :th_tongue2:

Re: TLSheff - Silver Clunker Needs Help

I meant the filter adapter and oil pan were missing. Hence.. it likely had a H/C aluminum pan and tucking oil filter adapter

Re: TLSheff - Silver Clunker Needs Help

Actually it had a busted metal one with a hole in it so when we pulled it we just used my old pan and most of my old parts so we knew everything worked without a problem. I have a plastic tote full of old parts from the engine. I need to get them, but I will wait until I get it torn down and ready to put back together before I bother with a new pan and the other pieces.

Re: TLSheff - Silver Clunker Needs Help

I just might... depending I may be asking you to raid your shelf for misc. pieces lol

Re: TLSheff - Silver Clunker Needs Help

No actually and its getting a little worse, but something let go I think on the manifold or the crossover. Got a nasty exhaust leak now. Tech thinks it might be something with the converter, Soon I'll be ordering some Speed Daddies (finally) and will probably replace the motor/tranny mounts with solids when I do it. I figure once I have solid mounts on the bottom and fix the exhaust so its quieter in the engine bay I can start working to narrow it down.

Re: TLSheff - Silver Clunker Needs Help

Want a used pair cheap? They're not the prettiest. I have a brand new flex I can send with

Re: TLSheff - Silver Clunker Needs Help

Ooooo I just may. What you want for them and what all you got? I plan to remove the CAT completely, does yours have the "race pipe" piece?

Re: TLSheff - Silver Clunker Needs Help

I've got all the main pieces. No clamps. The flex is a brand new double walled. Hasn't even been welded up yet

Yes it's got the "race" pipe.
All you would need is to get the flex welded in and 4 clamps....and some RTV if you wish.
