Time for new suspension!

Hey so I'm definatly needing new struts and shocks in the back and was looking at the Monroe quickstruts. I found them on shockwarehouse.com for $161.35 each. The reason I was looking at the quickstruts is cuz I'll be doing this by myself and I don't have a shock compressor. What do you guys think I should go with?

a spring compresser is basically a clamp. i wouldnt recommend using a clamp, but im just saying its nothing special. you can rent them at autozone/advance probably.

Not to repeat what everyone already said, but save the extra money get a spring compressor and get you some KYB GR2's or whatever you have locally that you want.

anyone have links for the cheapest gr2's? and what spring should i get? ebachs? and also do i need the boots too? im new to the whole suspension stuff so id like to know everything i need.

oh hell, you just said eibachs. do you know what springs you even want? how low do you want to go? do you like how your car rides stock and dont want it to ride rougher?

ha sry man. like i said im new to suspension and know NOTHING. I have no clue what to get for springs. all i want is something cheap and decent.

i fig a set of kyb's and eibachs would be just as much, if not cheaper, than those quick struts from monroe, wouldn't they? with ebay pricing that i've seen.

yeah, but dont expect the GR2s to last more than 40k miles or so, maybe a little more. my car was starting to get rough by the time i sold it. i think i had somewhere on the area of 50k miles on mine and it just didnt ride the best anymore.

however, the lowering springs debate is a whole different issue. before you choose a spring youre going to have to decide on what youre willing to take. the springs with the least drop ride the best and the ones that go lower ride worse. its all up to what youre willing to deal with. i ran eibachs and i thought they were great. it lowered the car nearly 2"+ and it still rode pretty well, in my opinion. its no cadillac, but it also didnt ride like a civic that was slammed (rice bounce).

least drop: vogtland, SSC
medium drop: B&G, eibach, sprint...more
most drop: intrax

i am too lazy to dig up the threads, but you can search for intrax and see how they look. ive posted about them many times. pictures tell the best story. however, just know that once you go far enough down on these cars the axle geometry gets thrown off so you either need to use motor mount spacers to make the motor and transmission go higher into their normal positions, cut your dogbones shorter to pull the engine forward a little, or get custom length axles. some are more expensive than others. the spacers seem to work out the best for the price (you can make them if you know how to cut shapes in metal and can drill a few holes in them).

what else?

Ok so far I've decided I'll stick with stock height, the ssc or Vogtlands. Now I just have to find prices...

now somewhere i read that there are 2 different drops for the eibach springs, am i right or wrong? i thought there is a 1" and then a 2+" drop, is this true and if so, which did you have bio? i can put up with a slightly frim ride, if i get some handling bonuses out of it. i may get the gr2's for now due to $$, unless i can find some agx for a decent price.

i just found that ajusa carries vogtland springs and it says they have them in stock and they ship in2-5 days.

there are two sets of eibachs. the genI and genII. the genI had more lowering in the back which presented itself as "ass sag". i had the genII springs which sat evenly. there is no eibach springs that will only drop an inch.

ahh, ok bio, so the genII are the way to go, i HATE ass sag...on cars and women. i guess i saw that on a few ebay listings where they said the drop was 1", and then i saw some say 2". the sellers must be wrong then. so the prokit is the one i want?

so i just ended up buying another snowmobile. 800 bucks out the door. definatly going to need a cheap route...
