Interesting. This is the first I've seen that the chain hits the crank. Perhaps the chamfer on the crank gear is machined too far. Maybe it's possible to have a very thin washer made for it to space the crank gear by just a hundredth or two, enough to gain clearance on the crank side. That way you can run two front cover gaskets and clear the oil pump cover.
 
Typically like CompG mentions the crank gear is pushed away from the crank based on an incorrect chamfer on the back of it. Which would make it ride the oil pump cover at an angle.

Looks like you are seeing a total sandwich effect. Where did the chain/gears come from? I'm thinking it's not a standard RM setup or something is very odd there.
 
The Rollmasters are originally made for the Aussie 3800 not the US version and they don't plan to change that design anytime soon. Alot of people just have the gear chamfered to the correct specs for our cars. PM Gr8racingfool (Farnsworth) about this.

And he's not having the typical issue from the incorrect chamfering. :th_angry2:
 
Oh sorry... I didn't read that far back. This is a super old thread I just assumed it was regarding the original issue.
 


so when i was done working today i measure the chain on the cam and the crank to see if it was in line and not the sandwich effect (Ty BillBoost37 ;) )

made some pic's of it all to see for your self

Are you measuring from block to chain at both locations? It almost looks like you are sitting on the cam thrust plate in one of the pics..

Help a guy out.
 


If I'm reading it right....there isn't much of a difference at all. Which should mean that you aren't bottomed out on the front of the block.
 
yes it is all the way back on the crank i pulled it of to see if the back side was ok

and as far i can see this angle is the same as the stock one (i did not change it ) out of the box

Is that a JP or Rollmaster? That crank gear looks just like my JP I am putting on now. I read this thread and subscribed a while back and I checked mine with a steel straight edge across the cam gear and crank gear face and it was perfect, ground my pump cover down with the angle grinder and even without the double gaskets I cleared the pump cover. Now I'm worried cause I didn't look to see if it was hitting the crank, good thing I'm lazy and haven't put the front cover back on yet.
