Okay, right now i am broke, the car is running fine but im hoping to keep it 4 a long time. So my question is, having 130k on both the engine and the tranny... What swap (engine + tranny) would be better for me in a long run? L67 or L32? Also with that, is it even worth it? Any suggestions please post. Im off to work now.
 


what year make and model do you have?......both engines internally are basically the same as far as dependability and longevity.......it all depends on who drove it and how they drove it. You can have a 20,000 setup and it will be trashed or you can have one with 200K that is like new. Maintenance and driving habits are huge....how long is a long time. Why do you want to do a motor and tranny swap if everything is working good..........we will need more info from you to answer this.
 
doesnt matter so long as they are in good running condition. as liqui said, depends how well they were taken care of.

if you were going to go for a good build, use a high compression block (l36/l26).
 
01 GT, 133k so far and it is working good, been changing oil every 3000 miles (castrol gtx - even the previous owner did that), car has been most of the time in georgia so no rust from salt and so far its going good. Like i said, im thinking way ahead since i plan on keeping it for at least 4 years and with my driving - i like pushing it from time to time and i also do about 500 miles a week - im hoping to get the engine to at least 200k. besides i would go into modding but a prospect of modding a 133k mile car is not a beautiful one ;)

i recently have trouble with power steering - sometimes whines like crazy. right now i just want to get gmpp handling kit by next spring.
 
check your power steering fluid level. Its behind/below the alternator.

As far as what motor to get, just use the car till it breaks, then worry about it.
 
Holy sh** this is the worst car to get to the power steering. I still havent goten to check it.

You have hit upon the key item; doing routine maintenance.
A few years ago a car that had been used as a taxi with a 3800 in it was wrecked in L.A. with over 300,000 miles on it. Factory 36 (plant where the 3800 was made) arranged to get the motor back to Flint for teardown. This motor was of interest because it had complete service records. Upon teardown the motor was still mechanically in spec. The crank was gaged on the same jig as the production cranks and no measurable wear was detected. The key was routine maintenance. This motor was out of a cab so it certainly wasn't babied.
The same plant (Factory 36) had a re-union last year with an informal contest that was looking for the 3800 with the most miles on it with no re-build or repairs. The winner had more than 450,000 miles on his motor. With that in mind, as long as you keep the maintenance up, a motor swap is the least of your worries.:)
 
with that said, depending on your driving habits and maintenance history of the tranny, you would have to worry about the tranny before the motor in most cases. If this was also well taken care of then you may not have anything to worry about. Obviously the supercharged motor is harder on the tranny than the NA 3800 due to the extra HP/torque.........but it is way more dependant on maintenance if you arent beating the crap out of it.
 
My car (2000 GTP) has 140k miles and have all maintanance records from origanal owner. They changed the oil every 4-6 thousand miles. So far I can tell the engine runs perfect, and burns less than 1/2 quart every 4 thousand miles since I have owned it. It really does all boil down to how it is maintained, these engines can last a long time if done right. I do have to do the LIM gaskets, but that is no fault of the engine itself.
