there's some bolts you can go german on (gudentite), but even the ones you shouldn't using a torque wrench a lot of the time is a waste of resources and time.

besides head studs/bolts on a motor i do the rest of the crap by feel...

This. I have been working on and around cars for 20 years now and I have NEVER used a torque wrench on lug nuts. I have also never had a problem with breaking a stud on a lug nut I have tightened. My mom had some tires put on at a local shop and they hammered the hell out of the lug nuts and I had a hell of a time getting them broke loose. When I had my buddy put tires on my car he used a breaker bar to tighten the lugs.

Impacts are supposed to be used to take bolts/nuts off, not put them on.

WOW. You should use a torque wrench on pretty much everything thats rotational like internal engine and tranny parts. I do recommend using them on wheels due to safety and because you can screw up rotors. Some will argue hubs can be affected over time as well but honestly using a torque wrench on certain things will only take a few extra seconds

^ Agree, thats how you stretch bolts. It may not matter when you do it but can down the road. I admit i have learned over time by hand what say 100 ft lb feels like but for most things including me wheels i use a torque wrench.

It's all about feel. I have never screwed up a rotor or hub by not using a torque wrench either. It's not that difficult to tell where to stop tightening is.

i use a 4 way lug wrench deal. you know the kind you can spin real fast lol

it bottoms out, it gets about a 1/2 turn more, usually two creaks of the lug nut. been doing it this way for like 35 years now. never lost a wheel, egged a wheel, nor have i ever stripped a lug, or broken one.

you have no idea how many lug nuts ive taken off and re installed do you lol

both of my trucks were 8 lug wheels, every 60 days i rotated them tires. i was also doing 3,000 miles a month easy, so a oil change every month too.

Some guys have the feel, I suppose. I'm not one of them! You need to make a "click" sound whenever you tighten something. We will call you "Mr. torque." :th_bowdown: Haha!

Me either, also I love me a good 4 way for spinning lugs on. I have a mini one that works good then use a breaker bar to snug them down and recheck them every 50mi for a few days. My problem is these stupid aluminum lugs they crossthread so easy even if i reverse them untill i feel the threads jump.

You got it. When I'm at my buddy's shop, he hates how I use hand tools. I don't use air that often anymore, so I have a much better feel doing it the old fashioned way. When I hit my wheels with the torque wrench, I'm pretty much on the money.

When I was a 4-wheeler, I used to take my wheels of almost every weekend to work on my junk. 2-3 times a month, a few times on the trail. I needed a wheel biatch! LOL
 
whats this re checking lug nuts? if they are tight the first time theres no need to check em.

thats like saying, id better go make sure my alt bolts are tight from when i put a new on on last month......
 
I can tighten them then drive for 100 miles and they are a little loose. Usually re torquing them a second time and they are fine. Something with the wheels I was always told.

And yes I tighten them in a cross pattern how you are supposed too.

I have never rechecked wheel nuts, ever. I used a torque wrench on the LIM bolts thats about it, I put those at 20ftlb. I get a good judge on the proper torque amount taking it off, the mind bypasses any rust sticking etc. My car never breaks so........in fact none of my vehicles do
 


I have no idea, i haven't snapped any on my car yet *knock on wood* was all on my Dads 01. The tire places always tell me to come back to get them retorqued but i never do because I just do it myself.
