The Panda- Pretty Much a Racekar

Re: The Panda- Sad Adventures

Amazing how these cars "blow up"
race the **** out of it the night before , drives home fine
wife takes it to work the next day, blows up doing 35mph in a school zone - blame wife , get new motor ;)
lol wonder if that guy ^ still posts here

anyways good luck with the build , all 13 pages so far seem spot on , glad to see the car go to someone who cares about it

That's what I don't understand. It was babied for the last month before it popped. Just drove it to school and back home on fridays, and cruising around with the girlfriend on the weekend. It did have about 1/4 tank of gas in it, and I filled up in BFE. But, even if it did happen from bad gas, doesn't make sense why it happened at 2100rpm

Re: The Panda- Sad Adventures

Bcuz rebuild time!
*

Engine bay shot with nearly everything out.
*

Welding holes shut
*

*

Ground down the welds, then a skim coat of Evercoat's GlassLite.
*

Rough feather edge.** It's getting late...

Re: The Panda- Sad Adventures

Its looking good. Keep that rot at bay hell I wonder how the rockers are holding up. Since its down for now

Re: The Panda- New Adventures

Smoke, blowbye and a bad leakdown test sounds like piston rings on #2 are done.
I'd start looking for a short block if I was you...
Yup...it's situations like these where I hate to say i was right.
Sorry to see the damage!

Re: The Panda- Sad Adventures

If you don't do a TAZ style wire tuck on this I will find you and take it away from you! Might as well now since your this far already. The rad support looks great I just hope the engine and wiring gets cleaned up too!

Re: The Panda- Sad Adventures

You say you didn't hear/feel this until a stoplight or a stop of some sort? Tough to see that and think it didn't give any symptoms

Re: The Panda- Sad Adventures

I lost my first one rolling along at 70~.

Lights dimmed.

CEL flashed.

The end.

#4 looked like Bill's picture. We shook most of the piston out of the catback.
